Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked as the third best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 8,935 units between Sept. 24 and Sept. 30 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,440 units to rank third the week prior.
The PS3 ranked two titles in the top 10, including Tecmo Koei Corp.’s Dead or Alive 5 at No. 2 and Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Sleeping Dogs at No. 6.
Sony this week launched the Day 1 Digital Program to offer full new releases for the Playstation 3 via the Playstation Network.
PS3 owners can download new release titles from the Playstation Store. Playstation Plus members will receive a five percent discount on Day 1 Digital titles.
Titles now available for download include Resident Evil 6 and NBA 2K13.
Future titles include Dishonored, Doom 3: BFG Edition, 007: Legends, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Assassin’s Creed III.
Sony this week said it will release the Resistance Collection for the Playstation 3 this winter.
The compilation SKU will include Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and Resistance 3 at $39.99.
In addition, the title will include bonus DLC content for Resistance 2 and Resistance 3.
Hello Games this week said it will release Joe Danger: The Movie to the Playstation Network division of Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 Oct. 9.
Joe Danger: The Movie for PSN will include 10 hours of exclusive content.
The title includes a total of six acts (levels) to allow the veteran stuntman to recreate action-based movie scenes from mine cart racing to skiing from an avalanche, or jet-packing to safety.
Sales for the Playstation Vita ranked third in the latest retail data from Japan.
The PS Vita sold 14,469 units between Sept. 24 and Sept. 30 to rank as the No. 3 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 9,295 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 for the week.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 23,061 units to rank at No. 2 in the same period.
Bandai Namco Games Inc.’s SD Gundam G Generation: Overworld ranked at No. 1 with 209,815 units sold.
Activision Blizzard Inc. this week released new details for Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified for the Playstation Vita.
The mobile version will include objective-based missions that can be replayed to improve performance. New maps in the final game include Nukehouse and Range.
In addition, the title will include the weapon-modding system, with the ability to unlock attachments by leveling-up weapons in multiplayer.
Capcom Co. this week said it may release an installment of the Resident Evil for the Playstation Vita.
Resident Evil 6 director Eiichiro Sasaki told the Playstation Blog this week that Capcom could release a Resident Evil for the PS Vita pending sufficient market demand.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware neared 700 units in the latest Japan retail figures.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 742 units between Sept. 24 and Sept. 30 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 748 units the week prior.
Tecmo Koei Corp.’s Dead or Alive 5 ranked in top 10 at launch selling 14,811.
EA Inc. this week launched the Open Multiplayer Beta for Medal of Honor: Warfighter the Xbox 360.
The Multiplayer Beta includes the Sarajevo Stadium in Bosnia in which users are tasked to attack or defend random weapon caches on the battlefield.
Microsoft this month said Minecraft held as the top-selling Xbox Live Arcade title in the latest sales data for the division.
For the week of Sept. 16, Minecraft ranked as the No. 1-selling Xbox Live Arcade title based on full versions purchased.
Jet Set Radio ranked at No. 2 and The Walking Dead ranked at No. 3 in the same period.
Microsoft this week released the Launch Trailer for Forza Horizon for the Xbox 360.
The trailer includes in-game footage of races and final locations to be found in the open-world racing title.
EA Inc. this week released the Dance Central 3 demo to the Xbox Live division.
Dance Central 3, to be sold Oct. 16, will include more than 40 new tracks and the option to import tracks from Dance Central and Dance Central 2.
The final game includes a Story Mode, multiplayer mode for up to eight players and dance moves from the 70’s and 80’s.
Bioware Corp. this week said it will release the Mass Effect 3 Retaliation DLC to the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC next week.
The Retaliation DLC adds new enemies, classes, Hazard versions of existing maps, new weapons, new upgrades, and new challenges.
It will be sold Oct. 9 via Xbox Live and PC, and Oct. 10 via Playstation Network.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware ranked as the fifth top-selling hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 5,421 units between Sept. 24 and Sept. 30 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.
By comparison, the Wii sold 5,742 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.
Nintendo this week said it expects to sell 10 million Wii U and Wii consoles combined this fiscal year.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told All Things D this week the company is looking to “max out production as quickly as possible.”
In addition, he added that while pre-order launch sales have sold at major retail locations, the company will have additional stock on launch day.

Playstation Network users can utilize their PSN Wallet to purchase and download new titles to their mobile device.
Games purchase on one Playstation Certified device can be shared to other devices at no additional cost.
