Capcom Co. this week said it may release an installment of the Resident Evil for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita.

Resident Evil 6 director Eiichiro Sasaki told the Playstation Blog this week that Capcom could release a Resident Evil for the PS Vita pending sufficient market demand.

“If there is enough clamoring for Resident Evil on Vita that is something we’ll have to do,” Sasaki said.

The company released Resident Evil: Revelations exclusively to the Nintendo 3DS in 2011.

Resident Evil 6, released this week, features three solo or co-op campaigns featuring Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Jake Muller in intersecting storylines.

The final game includes the Agent Hunt Mode to invade another user’s game as an enemy and the Mercenaries Mode to compete in time-based challenges.

The Resident Evil video game franchise has sold more than 47 million copies worldwide to date. The live action movies have grossed more than $525 million in global markets.
