Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked as the second best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 13,903 units between Sept. 10 and Sept. 16 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,813 units to rank third the week prior.
The PS3 ranked two titles in the top 10, including Namco Bandai Inc.’s Tekken Tag Tournament 2 at No. 1 with 62,630 units sold at launch.
Sony in July said the company’s game division, which includes the Playstation business, incurred a $45 million loss on revenue of $1.5 billion in the first quarter amid declining sales of consoles and handhelds.
By comparison, the division held a $52.3 million profit in the same quarter one year ago.
The Playstation 3 and Playstation 2 sold a combined 2.8 million units in the quarter, down from 3.2 million from one year prior.
