Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked as the third best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 11,813 units between Sept. 3 and Sept. 9 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 12,433 units to rank third the week prior.
The PS3 ranked two titles in the top 10, including Rockstar Games’ Max Payne 3 at No. 3 with 24,264 units sold at launch.
Sony this week released Playstation 3 System Software Update v4.25 which offers 1GB of online cloud storage to Playstation Plus members.
Playstation Plus members previously held 150GB of online storage on the Playstation Network.
Playstation Plus is a premium online service that offers Playstation Network users free games and early access to exclusives at $49.99 per year.
Hulu Inc. this week released a new update to the software application for the Playstation 3 which includes a new interface.
The new update includes a tray-style layout, improved search with dropdown results and larger preview artwork than the prior version.
Sales for the Playstation Vita fell back post a hardware spike in the latest retail data from Japan.
The PS Vita sold 14,106 units between Sept. 3 and Sept. 9 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 50,070 the week prior.
The hardware ranked one title in the top 10 games for the week, Sega Corp.’s Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f at No. 5.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 9,065 units to rank at No. 4 in the same period.
Wired Productions this week said it will release Let’s Fish! Hooked On to Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita.
Developed by SIMS, the fishing simulation title includes realistic fishing action with arcade-style gameplay.
The title includes various modes, from World Tour, Challenge, Training to Underwater Mode.
The final game will feature nine different fish and 240 lures in 11 outdoor stages.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware neared 800 units in the latest Japan retail figures.

Fable: The Journey, to be sold Oct. 9, is a new first-person RPG that includes gesture-based controls.
Capcom Co. this week announced post-release DLC to add new game modes to Resident Evil 6.
Downloadable content will include three new game modes – Survivors Mode, Predator Mode, and Siege Mode.
Survivors Mode is a solo and team-based versus mode in which killed players respawn as an enemy and respawn as a human after two human kills.
In Predator Mode, users take control of Ustanak, a B.O.W. to try to eliminate human players.
In Siege Mode, users protect a single NPC while an opposing team tries to eliminate it.
All modes support up to six players and utilize maps from the Mercenaries Mode.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware ranked as the fifth top-selling hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 6,958 units between Sept. 3 and Sept. 9 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.
By comparison, the Wii sold 8,680 units the week prior.
The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online at No. 10.
Nintendo this week said it will launch the Wii U hardware Nov. 18 starting at $299.99 in the U.S.
The Basic Set will include the Wii U console and the Wii U GamePad in White, 8GB storage, AC adapters, HDMI cable and Wii U sensor bar at $299.99.
The Deluxe Set will include the Wii U console and Wii U GamePad in Black, 32GB storage, GamePad Charging Cradle, Stands for the GamePad and Console, AC adapters, HDMI cable, and Nintendo Land at $349.99.
The Wii U is backwards compatible with most Wii games and accessories, including the Wii Remote, Nunchuck, and Wii Balance Board.
A new entertainment application called Nintendo TVii will allow U.S. and Canada customers to view and engage in video content from multiple sources, including live TV, a Tivo DVR, YouTube, and video on-demand services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Instant Video.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii U will be available at launch, while third-party titles like Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be sold in Mar. 2013.
In addition, Activision Blizzard Inc. announced Call of Duty: Black Ops II for the Wii U. The release will include exclusive features like off-TV play and local multiplayer for two using the GamePad and an HDTV.
Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week began pre-order sales for the Wii U Pro Controller for the Wii U hardware.
The Wii U Pro Controller, to be sold Nov. 18, will feature a traditional console controller layout at $49.99.

Nintendo this week said it will offer a free downloadable Pokemon to buyers of Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2 for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS handheld.
In the offer, customers who connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection by Nov. 12 will receive Genesect, a mythical Pokemon restored from a 300-million-year-old Fossil.

Apple Inc. this week announced the iPhone 5, the latest version of the top-selling iPhone smartphone.
The iPhone 5 will include a 4-inch Retina display, 8MP iSight 1080p camera, 720p front-facing camera, and 4G LTE functionality. The phone at 7.6mm thick is 18 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S and at 112 grams is 20 percent lighter than the iPhone 4S.

The Kindle Fire HD will be sold in a 7-inch SKU with a faster CPU and double the RAM at $199.00.
