Nintendo Co. this week said sales of the Nintendo 3DS platform increased in Aug. in part to the launch of the Nintendo 3DS XL hardware.

The company said 3DS hardware sales increased 36 percent from July due to the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, which began sale in the U.S. Aug. 19.

The Nintendo 3DS XL includes a 4.88-inch main display, 90 percent larger the current Nintendo 3DS, and include a 4GB SD card.

It sells at $199.99, $20 more than the standard 3DS.

Nintendo launched the Nintendo 3DS handheld with 18 software titles Mar. 27.

The hardware includes two screens, a 3D Depth Slider, a Circle Pad, a 2GB SD Card and 3-D display technology that does not require the use of special glasses.
