Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked as the second best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 11,896 units between Aug. 20 and Aug. 26 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 16,277 units to rank third the week prior.
The PS3 did not rank any titles in the top 10 for the week.
Sony this week announced new characters to join the roster in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale for the Playstation 3.
New characters include Evil Cole from Infamous, Nariko from Heavenly Sword, Sir Daniel Fortesque from the MediEvil franchise.
Sony this week said DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket will be available for Playstation owners Sept. 9.
All Direct subscribers under the NFL Sunday Ticket Max plan will be able to download the PS3 application at no cost to stream live out-of-market NFL games in HD.
Also, users will receive access to the Red Zone Channel at no additional cost.
PS3 owners without DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket can purchase access to view content via the PS3 at $299.95.
Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week price cut the Playstation 3 Dualshock 3 Controller to under $40 in a new peripheral sale.
This week, the PS3 Dualshock 3 Controller holds a discount price of $39.99, 27 percent off the MSRP.
Sony Corp. this week released new Playstation 3 Collections titles to U.S. retail.
New titles include God of War Saga, Ratchet and Clank Collection and Infamous Collection.
God of War Saga includes five titles – God of War, God of War II, God of War III, God of War Origins Collection, and Playstation Plus 1-Month Voucher.
Infamous Collection includes Infamous, Infamous 2, Infamous: Festival of Blood, Extra Missions, and Additional Extras.
Finally, Ratchet and Clank Collection includes Ratchet and Clank, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal.
Each Collection SKU sells at $29.99.
Sony this week released Journey Collector’s Edition for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.
Journey Collector’s Edition includes Journey, in addition to bonus games flOw and Flower.
SNK Playmore USA Corp. this week began holding a new ‘End of Summer’ Game Sale for the Playstation 3 and PSP in the Playstation Network division.
Between Aug. 28 and Sept. Sept. 25, Neo Geo Station titles for the PS3 and PSP will be discounted to $4.49 each from $8.99.
In addition, the Neo Geo 10-Game Bundle Pack for the PS3 will sell at $39.99.
EA Inc. this week released Rock Band Blitz to the Playstation Network.
The download title utilizes the Dualshock 3 Controller to allow users to tap to the beat against 25 tracks.
The title includes functionality with all current user Rock band tracks and all 25 tracks can be played with instruments in Rock Band 3.
Activision Blizzard Inc. this week released Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD to the Playstation Network division.
Developed by Robomodo, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is a digital download title that will include new high-definition graphics and online functionality.
Sales for the Playstation Vita ranked third in the latest retail data from Japan.
The PS Vita sold 10,880 units between Aug. 20 and Aug. 26 to rank as the No. 5 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,298 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any software titles in the top 10.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 9,499 units to rank at No. 4 in the same period.

The Creature Slaughter Dome is an exclusive survival mode that allows users to battle waves of monsters and gain experience that can be used in the main game.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 8,810 units between Aug. 20 and Aug. 26 to rank No. 3 in overall sales.
By comparison, the Wii sold 15,640 units the week prior.
The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online at No. 5.
Sales for the Nintendo 3DS held the top sales rank in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 71,373 units between Aug. 20 and Aug. 26 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 111,857 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked four titles in top 10, including New Super Mario Bros. 2 at No. 1 selling 68,547 units in third-week figures. The title has sold 981,144 units to date in the region.
The Nintendo DS sold 1,542 units for the week.
