Sony Corp. this week said global sales of the Playstation Vita have totaled to 2.2 million units to date.

Sony this month announced a slate of exclusive new titles for the PS Vita, including Killzone Mercenary and Tearaway.

In addition, the company announced the Cross Buy program for Playstation 3 and PS Vita titles. In the initiative, users who purchase the PS3 version of a title will automatically receive the PS Vita version at no extra cost.

The PS Vita has incurred tepid demand post launch due to a lack of killer app titles and a premium price point.

The PS Vita, which began sale Feb. 22 in the U.S., is sold in a Wi-Fi only model at $249.99 and a 3G model at $299.99.
