Sony Corp. this week demonstrated the new Cross Control feature for the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

With an upcoming firmware DLC, users can control select PS3 titles with the Playstation Vita and utilize all Vita control features in the game.

In LittleBigPlanet 2, users can use the Vita to view hazard areas in the level, drag boxes around electric walls with the touchscreen, or beam Sackboy from the PS3 to the Vita and continue play on the handheld.

The functionality is reminiscent of new dual-screen gameplay features to be included in Nintendo Co.’s Wii U, which includes a tablet-like controller called the Wii U GamePad.

Firmware update 1.80 due Aug. 28 will add Cross Play functionality in addition to the expansion of Playstation Plus membership to the PS Vita.
