Retailer Best Buy Co. Inc. this week discounted Nintendo Co.’s Wii bundle in a Q1 loss amid declining hardware sales.

This week, the Wii hardware bundle with New Super Mario Bros. Wii sells at $139.99, $10 off the $149.99 MSRP.

Nintendo in July recorded a $220 million loss in the first quarter due to declining sales of the Wii console.

In the quarter ending June 30, held a net loss of $220 million on revenue of $1.08 billion.

Nintendo sold 710,000 Wii units between Apr. and June, less than half of the 1.6 million units sold in the same period last year.

The Wii holds a global install base of 51 million units.

Nintendo will release Wii U, the successor the Wii hardware, in 2012.
