Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked as the second best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 15,916 units between July 23 and July 29 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 15,214 units to rank third the week prior.
The PS3 ranked two titles in the top 10, including Atlus Inc.’s Persona 4: Arena at No. 2, which sold 128,485 units at launch.
Sony this week said the company’s game division, which includes the Playstation business, incurred a $45 million loss on revenue of $1.5 billion in the first quarter amid declining sales of consoles and handhelds.
By comparison, the division held a $52.3 million profit in the same quarter one year ago.
The Playstation 3 and Playstation 2 sold a combined 2.8 million units in the quarter, down from 3.2 million from one year prior.
The PS Vita and PSP sold 1.4 million units combined, down from 1.8 million units one year ago.
Capcom Co. this week said Resident Evil 6 will include a campaign for Ada Wong and an Agent Hunt Mode.
The Ada Wong campaign will be unlocked when users complete the three main campaigns. Ada will be armed with a crossbow and bombs in the single-player mode.
Agent Hunt Mode can be accessed after users complete the game. In the multiplayer online component, select enemies in the campaign will be controlled by other players in an effort to take down the protagonist.
Resident Evil 6, to be sold Oct. 2, will feature a single-player and co-op campaign mode to include Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield, in addition to new characters in a dramatic global horror crisis.
Sony this week said the Public Beta for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale for the Playstation 3 will begin this fall.
The title is currently in limited testing and will rollout to additional users pending release of the title. Early access will be provided to Playstation Plus members.
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale will feature trademark characters from Playstation franchises, including Parappa the Rapper, Kratos from God of War, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, Col. Radec from Killzone, and Fat Princess.
Sony this week released The Expendables 2 to the Playstation Network.
The Expendables 2, a new 4-player co-op arcade shoot-em-up title, is now available at $14.99. In addition a free demo is also available.
Sony this week said Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead Episodes 1 and 2 have been added to the Instant Game Collection at the Playstation Network for Playstation Plus members.
Playstation Plus members can now access and download each title at no cost.
XSEED Games this week said it will release Way of the Samurai 4 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 to the Playstation Network Aug. 21.
The title will be sold as a digital release at the Playstation Store at $39.99.
Developed by Acquire, Way of the Samurai 4 includes custom character creation from three age groups and choose quests between three feuding factions that will affect the branching storyline.
Developer Frima Studio this week said it will release Lights, Camera, Party! to the Playstation Network division in late Aug.
The Playstation Move title includes a Story Mode with 24 mini-games and additional modes to select one of 50 total mini-games.
Sales for the Playstation Vita ranked fourth in Japan in the latest retail data from Japan.
The PS Vita sold 10,846 units between July 23 and July 29 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,932 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any software titles in the top 10.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 12,989 units to rank No. 3 in the same period.
Sony this week said LittleBigPlanet for the Playstation Vita will be sold Sept. 25 in the U.S.
Developed by Tarsier Studios and Media Molecule, the title will include a brand new story mode, new art, new features, and new tools.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 948 units between July 23 and July 29 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 865 units the week prior.
Atlus Inc.’s Persona 4: Arena ranked at No. 18 selling 9,801 units at launch.
Microsoft this week said Minecraft held as the top-selling Xbox Live Arcade title in the latest sales data for the division.

The title sold an additional 450,000 copies in the Q1 2013 earnings quarter.
Capcom this week released 12 new fighters to Street Fighter X Tekken.
The 12 fighters include Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy, Sakura, Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack, Lars Alexandersson and Lei Wulong.
The DLC sells at $19.99 via PSN and 1600 Microsoft Points via Xbox Live.
Capcom Co. this week said Dragon’s Dogma has sold more than 1 million units worldwide.
The strong sales of the first entry are said to provide incentive to make the IP a franchise.
Dragon’s Dogma, which began sale May 22 in the U.S. and May 25 in Europe, is a new action title that includes combat in a large, open world.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware increased in Japan amid the release of a new Kirby title in the region.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 10,170 units between July 23 and July 29 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.
By comparison, the Wii sold 9,002 units the week prior.
The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10, including Just Dance Wii 2 at No. 6 and Kirby’s Dream Collection: Special Edition at No. 9.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS held the top sales rank in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 44,399 units between July 23 and July 29 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 47,063 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked two titles in top 10, including New Super Mario Bros. 2 at No. 1 selling 407,503 units at launch.
The Nintendo DS sold 1,178 units for the week.
Nintendo this week said the Pokedex 3D Pro application for the Nintendo 3DS will be sold Nov. 8.
In the download companion application for Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2, users can research more than 640 Pokemon.
In addition, users can take the Pokemon Challenge to test their Pokemon knowledge with in-application quizzes.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. this week said it will sell the Samsung Galaxy Note tablet to T-Mobile USA customers Aug. 8 at $249.99 after two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate.
The Galaxy Note includes a 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED display, 1.5Ghz Dual-Core CPU, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, active input technology via the S Pen, and S Memo, an application to capture all user-created content captured by the S Pen.
The final product includes HSPA+ 42Mbps functionality, and Google Inc.’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
