Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked as the second best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 14,536 units between July 2 and July 8 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 17,292 units to rank third the week prior.
The PS3 ranked three titles in top 10 software sales for the week, including Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier at No. 7, Max Anarchy at No. 8, and Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of the Land of Twilight at No. 9.
Sony this week announced the new Playstation Play initiative, a summer program to showcase new Playstation Network game releases, will begin July 31.
Titles to be released in the program include The Expendables 2 Video Game (July 31), Sound Shapes (Aug. 7), Papo & Yo (Aug. 17), and Counter Strike: Global Offensive (Aug. 21).
Each title will be sold at $14.99.
PSN users who purchase two or more titles will receive a cash voucher between $3 to $10, while Playstation Plus members will receive 20 percent off each title during the pre-order period.
Sony this week said Wizards of the Coasts’ Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 for the Playstation 3 ranked as the top download title in the Playstation Network division in June.

Sony this week said Malicious will be sold in the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 July 24.
Developed by Alvion, Malicious is a download action title in which users control a ‘Spirit Vessel’ and use the Mantle of Cinders, a malleable weapon, to defeat Holders – evil giants that threaten to destroy the Kingdom.
Malicious will be sold at $9.99.
Sony this month announced new characters for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale for the Playstation 3.
Heihachi from the Tekken series and Toro, the Sony mascot, will be playable characters in the final game.
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, to be sold Oct. 23, will feature trademark characters from Playstation franchises, including Parappa the Rapper, Kratos from God of War, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, Col. Radec from Killzone, and Fat Princess.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Inc.’s LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes for consoles and handhelds ranked as the top-selling title in June according to data by NPD Group Inc.
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes sold about 450,000 units across all platforms to rank as the No. 1 software title in June.
Resident Evil 6 will include nearly four hours of cut scenes according to the British Board of Film Classification.
The BBFC recently disclaimed the upcoming sequel held 255 minutes of cutscenes. By comparison Resident Evil 5 held 65 minutes and Resident Evil 4 held 127 minutes.
Capcom recently stated each of the three campaigns represent about 70 to 80 percent of the entire Resident Evil 5 campaign for a lengthy sequel.

The PS Vita sold 13,758 units between July 2 and July 8 to rank as the No. 3 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 25,636 the week prior.
Persona 4 Golden fell out of the top 10 to rank at No. 13 for the week.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 10,999 units to rank No. 4 in the same period.

The Xbox 360 sold 257,000 units to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the month in figures provided by NPD Group Inc.
Video game sales fell 30 percent from one year prior to $669.8 million
Microsoft this week released Kinect PlayFit to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.
Kinect PlayFit is a free software download that allows users to track calories burned when user play a variety of Kinect titles, including Kinect Star Wars, Dance Central 2, and Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012.
In addition, the program includes activity challenges, leaderboards, and integration with the Xbox Live community.
Microsoft this week announced new pre-order bonus incentives and new Collector’s Edition SKU for Forza Horizon for the Xbox 360.
Customers who pre-order Forza Horizon will receive the Horizon-themed 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 in-game vehicle and an additional select vehicle.
The Forza Horizon Collector’s Edition will include a Horizon-branded Steelbook with Horizon Festival Ticket for access to an extra five-car pack, limited edition car pack liveries, and Accelerator Token Pack.
Ubisoft Inc. this week delayed the release of the Arctic Strike DLC for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to July 17.
The Arctic Strike DLC, to be released in late July, includes new competitive multiplayer maps, new Guerilla Mode level, new multiplayer mode and six new weapons.
Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said it will release The Walking Dead video game the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC in 2013.
The first-person shooter title, developed by Terminal Reality, will include Daryl Dixon and brother Merle in a quest to find their way to Atlanta.
The title is said to incorporate zombies that can detect users via sight, sound and smell. Users can choose to fight or employ stealth tactics to remain undetected.
Capcom Co. this week said it will release 12 new fighters to Street Fighter X Tekken July 31, earlier than the planned fall release.
The 12 fighters include Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy, Sakura, Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack, Lars Alexandersson and Lei Wulong.
The DLC will be sold at $19.99 via PSN and 1600 Microsoft Points via Xbox Live.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware fell held in fifth place in retail data from Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 6,818 units between July 2 and July 8 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.
By comparison, the Wii sold 6,987 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any software titles in the top 10 for the week.
Nintendo this week said the Wii sold nearly 95,000 units in June at U.S. retail according to data by NPD Group Inc.
The hardware ranked several third-party titles in the top ten, including Warner Bros. Interactive Inc.’s LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.
XSEED Games this week said it will release The Last Story for the Wii to U.S. retail Aug. 14.
Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week said Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 will be released to the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 in spring 2013.
Developed by CyberConnect2, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 is said to include the most extensive roster in the franchise. The story mode will include adventures set in the village of Konoha and massive scale boss battles.
The final game will include 3D support and online functionality.
Developed by Mistwalker, The Last Story is an RPG title that features a band of adventurers in a cinematic adventure.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS declined but held the top sales rank in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 52,421 units between July 2 and July 8 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 66,391 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked five titles in top 10, including Etrian Odyssey IV at No. 2, Little Battlers eXperience: Explosive Boost at No. 3, Tousouchuu: Shijou Saikyou no Hunter at No. 5, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D at No. 6 and Culdcept at No. 10.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 560 units and the Nintendo DSi sold 550 units for the week.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 to the Nintendo 3DS ranked as the top ‘Most Wished For’ game titles at Amazon.com Inc. this week due to strong interest.

Nintendo launched the Nintendo 3DS handheld with 18 software titles Mar. 27.
Amazon.com Inc. this week announced the release of GameCircle to the Kindle Fire tablet in addition to the release of GameCircle APIs to developers.
GameCircle offers customers complimentary gaming features like achievements, leaderboards, and sync. The new APIs will allow developers to integrate the features and games into GameCircle.
Achievements will allow users to track tropies, treasures, badges and rewards earned from games. Leaderboards will provide game score comparison among players. Finally, Sync will automatically save player progress to the cloud.
