Google Inc. this week began pre-order sales for the Nexus 7 tablet starting at $199.
The Nexus 7 is an Android-based product that includes Android 4.1, code-named Jellybean.
The hardware includes a 7-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display, Quad-Core Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU, scratch-resistant Corning display, 1.2MP front camera, microphone, NFC, GPS, accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyroscope.
The 8GB SKU sells at $199 while the 16GB SKU sells at $249.
Both products will be ship to customers in two to three weeks.
The product is priced competitively against Amazon.com Inc.’s Kindle Fire, which began sale in Nov. 2011 at $199.
Apple Inc. sells the latest iPad SKU at $499.99. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corp. in June announced the Surface tablet, which will offer a cover-based keyboard and Windows RT or Windows 8 Pro at a to be determined price.
