Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS declined but held the top sales rank in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 64,875 units between June 4 and June 10 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 101,075 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked five titles in top 10, including Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D at No. 2 and Mario Tennis Open at No. 5.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 615 units and the Nintendo DSi sold 383 units for the week.

Nintendo in Apr. recorded a $460 million loss for the fiscal year amid lower-than-expected sales of the Nintendo 3DS handheld and the Wii console.

It sold 13.5 million Nintendo 3DS handhelds, down from a target of 16 million.

It shipped about five million Nintendo DS units.

Nintendo launched the Nintendo 3DS handheld with 18 software titles Mar. 27.

The hardware includes two screens, a 3D Depth Slider, a Circle Pad, a 2GB SD Card and 3-D display technology that does not require the use of special glasses.
