Microsoft Corp. this week said it will not take part in upcoming industry game shows to focus on smaller private events for industry members and consumers.
Gamescom, a trade event, will be held in mid-Aug. in Cologne, Germany. Tokyo Game Show, a trade and consumer event, will be held in late Sept. in Chiba, Japan.
Microsoft recently held a large presence at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles to debut new Xbox 360 products.
Game companies have long held private events for media and retailers to command attention for new products. In addition, companies have recently held consumer events for the public at various locations and now provide streaming access to press events in order to build interest for upcoming product.
Nintendo Co. this month said it will not attend gamescom. Competitor Sony Corp. will continue to hold a presence at the annual trade event.
