Best Buy Co. Inc. this week began selling Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware with a bonus credit in a new hardware initiative.

This week, customers who purchase the Wii hardware with New Super Mario Bros. Wii will receive a $20 gift card at no additional cost.

Nintendo in Apr. recorded a $460 million loss for the fiscal year amid lower-than-expected sales of the Nintendo 3DS handheld and the Wii console.

In the year it sold 9.8 million Wii consoles, down from an estimate of 13 million.

The Wii holds a global install base of 51 million units.

Nintendo will release Wii U, the successor the Wii hardware, in 2012.
