Sony Corp. this week announced Beyond: Two Souls for the Playstation 3 hardware at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Developed by Quantic Dream, Beyond will allow players to leave the life of the character. The lead character will be played by actress Ellen Paige.

The real-time demonstrated included a cinematic sequence with the lead character yielding telekinetic capabilities to destroy large physical objects and dodge fire.

The Wonderbook will include a physical book in combination with the Playstation Eye camera and the Playstation Move to deliver educational and scientific titles that will allow images to project to the television from the book.

Microsoft Corp. this week demonstrated live gameplay for Halo 4 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo Media Briefing this week.

The title introduced a new jungle-based environment with brand new mechanical enemies that utilize Forerunner technology.

The title held at 30 frames-per-second with lush environments and strong sound samples. The action was accompanied by a heavy drum-based soundtrack.

Halo 4, to be sold Nov. 6, is the beginning of Reclaimer Saga, an epic new adventure in the Halo universe.

Microsoft this week announced Xbox SmartGlass functionality between the Xbox 360, Windows 8 tablets, and Windows Phones.

In the demonstration, users can transfer a streaming program from a Windows 8 tablet to the Xbox 360 console. In addition, users can view additional data from their tablet when viewing the program from their console.

A game demonstration, allowed users to draw football plays and execute touch-based play from a Windows 8 tablet.

Nintendo Co. this week detailed new information for the Wii U tablet controller, introduced the Pro Controller and a new social component called Miiverse.

The Wii U GamePad now features analog sticks, updated from the prototype analog pads, which click down and will include a new NFC Reader / Writer to transmit data from cards and figures. In addition, the GamePad will include TV remote functionality to allow users to control their TV from the GamePad.

The Wii U Pro Controller is a traditional game controller that will be sold for Wii U. It features traditional face and analog buttons found in standard game controllers without the trademark touchscreen.

Miiverse is a new social component in the Wii U UI that allows users to keep track and chat with their Mii friends. Text-chat is enabled via an on-screen keyboard from the Wii U GamePad, or users can video chat or draw from the GamePad to communicate.

Miiverse social functionality will be accessible from the Nintendo 3DS, PC, and any mobile web browser at a to be determined date.

Nintendo Co. this week demonstrated New Super Mario Bros. U for the Wii U at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

New Super Mario Bros. U included classic level design with added twists. The demo level included constantly bending platforms to require users to time each jump to avoid Piranha Plants that sat in-between.

In addition, the demo included a baby Yoshi character that can balloon to act as a parachute to glide. Mid-glide users can pump addition air into Yoshi for added altitude.

The Wii U GamePad relayed the exact image onto the controller touchscreen to offer the user the ability to utilize either the controller or the TV.

Nintendo this week demonstrated Nintendo Land for the Wii U at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest, an attraction in the final game, allowed one user to act as an Archer with the Wii U GamePad and two other users to act as swordsmen with the Wii Remote Plus.

All three players automatically move forward as the Archer aims and shoots arrows from a distance, while two swordsmen hack and slash, and guard with the Wii Remote. All three players share one life bar to hold a high challenge in the co-op title.

Nintendo Co. this week demonstrated Wii Fit U for the Wii U at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Core Luge requires users to sit on the Wii Balance Board and tilt left and right to balance through a downhill course. The Wii GamePad is set up in front of the user to detect arm wave motions to gain speed at the start of the race.

The activity provided a strong core exercise with users required to lean to gain speed. The course held a decent difficulty and subsequently moves in very high speeds should the player not crash.

Ubisoft Inc. this week demonstrated ZombiU for the Wii U at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Zombie held two distinctly different experiences in two player Capture the Flag local co-op.

A user with the Wii U Pro Controller will play a traditonal first-person shooter game to capture flags while fending off zombies. Control was solid with good default aim properties and button access to reload and change weapons. Weapons like the shotgun blew off chunks of zombie flesh and equipment aids like syringes help fend off zombies that grapple the player.

The user with the Wii U GamePad uses the touchscreen to view a map of the level to command the horde of zombies attacking the other player. The commander must choose between specific types of zombies including guard zombies to guard the Flag and attack zombies that mob the opponent.

Nintendo Co. this week said it will release New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo 3DS Aug. 19.

The title will include a new objective to collect as many coins as possible in each side-scrolling level.
