Nintendo Co. this week demonstrated New Super Mario Bros. U for the Wii U at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

In the video, four users utilize the Wii Remote Plus to platform while the Wii U GamePad user adds blocks to the level to aid others.

New Super Mario Bros. U included classic level design with added twists. The demo level included constantly bending platforms to require users to time each jump to avoid Piranha Plants that sat in-between.

In addition, the demo included a baby Yoshi character that can balloon to act as a parachute to glide. Mid-glide users can pump addition air into Yoshi for added altitude.

The Wii U GamePad relayed the exact image onto the controller touchscreen to offer the user the ability to utilize either the controller or the TV.

Controls were pitch perfect with the Wii U GamePad, with the soft directional pad and comfy button layout to relay classic Mario action.

The graphics engine was solid at 60 frames-per-second. The title held more texture detail than the prior entry for Wii and a more varied color palette.

The Wii U will be released in 2012.
