Ubisoft Inc. this week demonstrated Far Cry 3 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360, and the PC in the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The jungle demo level included multiple points of cooperative action. The first included an objective to guard a cargo train that must be welded at various points by team members. Members not guarding the train could take out incoming enemies which spawned from various locations.
The final act required team to place explosives on a bridge while taking out enemies. Members holding the explosives cannot shoot to force team members to lay cover fire.
The co-op demo offered a lot of opportunity to make each team member help out accordingly without suppying a specific job.
The graphics engine was good at 30 frames-per-second with a largely vegetated jungle environment and explosive oil barrels at each turn.
Far Cry 3, to be sold Sept. 4, is a first-person shooter sequel that includes shooting and melee action.
Multiplayer modes will include rewards for individual skill and team play. The final game will include open-world sandbox gameplay like prior entries.
