Capcom Co. this week demonstrated Resident Evil 6 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

In the preview, Leon Kennedy was required to guide a bystander to his missing daughter. The user is led through a moderately lit dining hall, which is detailed down to the food on the table, ultimately walking through the back-of-house areas to continue his search.

Leon is required to double back through the dining hall, this time in darkness. Lighting flashes through all the windows and illuminates the entire level and characters briefly for a classic nod to the series.

Ultimately, Leon confront by a zombie female that must be evaded with a quick time event followed by an escape to the parking garage where the first batch of zombies appear.

Users ready aim with the left trigger and shoot with the right. Leon is able to move freely during each shot, and includes a new option to dual-wield two guns with a button press during the ready aim position. Aim controls were accurate and close-up, which diffuses the focus off Leon and onto enemies.

The item menu is now accessible in real-time to allow users to select items on-the-fly easily. In addition, items can be picked up with a button press without the character performing a drop-down animation for added efficiency.

The graphics engine is stellar at 30 frames-per-second. The MT Framework engine is able to render rich environments from textures and lighting for moody indoor structures to sprawling outdoor locations.
