Sega Corp. this week demonstrated Aliens: Colonial Marines at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The demo included a six versus six team deathmatch mode that took place in an night-based outdoor location filled with quick aliens.
Each team of six was required to rack up the most Alien kills in the match, with users able to choose from four loadouts, the first which included the classic Pulse Rifle.
Aim and movement controls were solid with accurate hit detection against fast-paced enemies.
The scanner can be viewed with a button press to signal any nearby enemy activity, however the user risks having an alien sneak at an attack during use.
The graphics engine was exceptional at 60 frames-per-second on PC. All soldiers, environments, and even aliens paid dedicated homage to the Aliens film to portray similar lighting and effects throughout.
Developed by Gearbox Software, Aliens: Colonial Marines, to be sold Feb. 12, 2013, is a squad-based first-person shooter.
The title will include a Team Deathmatch mode in addition to objective-based modes. A number of multiplayer maps will be available but has not yet been specified.
In addition, the multiplayer co-op mode will support up to four players online and offer a split-screen local mode.
Finally, the multiplayer mode will allow users to customize appearance and abilities and include weapons alluded to in the film.
