Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 held as the second best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.

Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 12,026 units between May 14 and May 20 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 12,996 units to rank third the week prior.

Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City ranked at No. 9 for the week selling 6,625 units. The title has sold 326,130 units in the region to date.

Sony this week released Sorcery for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.

Sorcery is a third-person action adventure title that requires the Playstation Move peripheral to allow user to cast powerful spells and solve puzzles.

The final game includes various enemies and the ability to learn new magic abilities.

Capcom Co. this week said it will release the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set to Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360.

The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set will include four Street Fighter titles, exclusive video, 11-Disc Soundtrack, Art Book, 8-inch Light-up Ryu Statue, Ryu’s Belt, and Certificate of Authenticity at $149.99.

Street Fighter titles include Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition with all costume DLC, and Street Fighter X Tekken including all character and Swap Costume DLC.

Sony this week said Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be sold in the Playstation Network division June 26.

In addition, all DLC available for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is now available at no cost until the digital launch of the title.

In Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Nathan Drake hunts for the treasure of El Dorado.

In Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Drake treks to the Himalayan valley of Shambhala to uncover a new treasure.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception began sale Nov. 11, 2011.

Capcom Co. this week said it will release Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection to the Playstation Network division June 13.

Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection includes Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. Both titles were previously released to Nintendo Co.’s Wii.

The collection will be sold at $26.99. Beginning July 17, each title will be sold separately at $14.99 each.

Atlus Inc. this week said it will extend sever support for Demon’s Souls for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3.

The publisher previously said that it would end online functionality for the title in May.

Capcom Co. this week released Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition to the Playstation Network division of Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition includes 39 characters and 4 new characters – Yun, Yang, Oni, and Evil Ryu.

The final game includes updated character balancing, Replay Follower to follow up to five separate player replays, My Channel Advanced to distribute replays to up to 50 players, and Elite Channel to watch replay data from elite players who have a rating of 3000PP or more.

Sony this week said When Vikings Attack will be released to the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita.

The new action adventure title allows users to take the role of a band of average citizens to battle a mob of Viking invaders.

The title will include Cross Play functionality to allow up to four users to play with PS3 or PS Vita owners in any combination. In addition, users can save data on one platform and continue on another.

Capcom Co. this week this week said DmC: Devil May Cry will be sold Jan. 15, 2013 at U.S. retail.

A PC version will be sold later in 2013.

DmC: Devil May Cry, developed by Ninja Theory, is a reboot of the action franchise set in a parallel universe to the main franchise.

The title will feature an infested modern world with new demonic threats that Dante must defeat utilizing trademark combo attacks.

NIS America Inc.’s Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland for the Playstation 3 is a unique RPG that combines recipe-making an turn-based battles for a light-hearted, niche adventure in a Final Review.

Sales for the Playstation Vita held a lukewarm status in the latest Japan retail figures.

The PS Vita sold 6,347 units between May 14 and May 20 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 10,583 the week prior.

The PS Vita did not rank any software titles in the top 10.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 12,247 units to rank No. 3 in the same period.

Sega Corp. this week said it will release Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz to the Playstation Vita Oct 23.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz includes 100 puzzle stages and eight mini-games.

The title will utilize tilt functionality for motion control and the camera function to capture real-world objects to create custom stages.

The final game will include online multiplayer and global leaderboards accessible with GPS.

Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware fell below 1,000 units in the latest Japan retail figures.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 825 units between May 14 and May 20 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 1,023 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any software titles in the top 10 for the week.

Microsoft this week released Joy Ride Turbo for the Xbox 360 in the Xbox Live Arcade division.

Developed by BigPark (Kinect Joy Ride), the controller-based arcade kart racer that includes 42 vehicles, new tracks, new Stunt Parks, and Trophies and Car Parts to collect.

The final game includes four-player local and eight-player online multiplayer.

Microsoft this week said Minecraft held as the top-selling Xbox Live Arcade title in the latest sales data for the division.

For the week of May 14, Minecraft ranked as the No. 1-selling Xbox Live Arcade title based on full versions purchased.

Trials Evolution ranked at No. 2 and The Walking Dead ranked at No. 3 in the same period.

Capcom Co. this week released Dragon’s Dogma to U.S. retail.

Dragon’s Dogma is a new action title that includes combat in a large, open world.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week released the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection #2 to the Xbox 360.

Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection #2 includes Lookout and Getaway in addition to three new multiplayer maps – Foundation, Sanctuary, and Oasis – and two new Spec-Ops maps, Iron Zone and Kill Switch.

Sega Corp. this week said Aliens: Colonial Marines will be sold Feb. 12, 2013 to global retail.

Developed by Gearbox Software, Aliens: Colonial Marines is a squad-based first-person shooter that will lead a band of soldiers into the abandoned U.S.S. Sulaco.

Microsoft this month said Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ranked as the top Xbox Live title in recent usage data.

For the week ending May 14, Modern Warfare 3 ranked as the No. 1 Xbox Live title based on unique users.

Pre-order sales for the Halo 4 Limited Edition SKU and the standard SKU for the Xbox 360 ranked in the top five at GameStop Corp.’s online division amid building demand for the sequel.

This week, the Halo 4 Limited Edition SKU ranked as the No. 3 best-selling product at Gamestop.com.

The Halo 4 standard SKU ranked at No. 5 in the same period.

The Halo 4 Limited Edition SKU will include War Game Map Packs for access to nine maps, early access to six Specializations to access new ranks and new customization options, Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn – a 90-minute extended version of the live action digital series, and bonus digital content to download via Xbox Live.

Ubisoft Inc. this week released Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to U.S. retail.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier includes an all-new, 12-hour single-player campaign in 12 missions, four-player online campaign co-op functionality, competitive multiplayer mode for up to 16, and Gunsmith Mode to create custom weapons for use in all game modes.

The final game includes more than 50 weapons and 10 multiplayer maps.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week said will release a roster of DLC characters free to customers who pre-order Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Customers who pre-order Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will receive additional DLC characters, Michelle Chang, Angel, Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre at launch.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. will offer Michelle Chang and Angel characters. GameStop Corp. stores will offer Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre in addition to Michelle Chang and Angel.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2, to be sold Sept. 10, will include more than 50 characters and new stages set in global locations.

Tecmo Koei Holdings Co. this week announced two new fighters for Dead or Alive 5.

Characters joining the Dead or Alive 5 roster include Lei Fang and Zack.

Dead or Alive 5, to be sold in Sept., will include a wide variety of martial arts techniques that marry the individual personalities of each fighter.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware fell below 6,000 units in latest retail data from Japan.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 5,956 units between May 14 and May 20 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 6,073 units the week prior.

Mario Party 9 ranked as the No. 2 best-selling software for the week, selling 25,123 units in its third week at retail.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS held at No. 1 in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 45,752 units between May 14 and May 20 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 46,425 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked six titles in the top 10, including Fire Emblem: Awakening at No. 4, Super Mario 3D Land at No. 6, Mario Kart 7 at No. 7, Monster Hunter 3G at No. 8, and Kid Icarus: Uprising at No. 10.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 683 units and the Nintendo DSi sold 425 units for the week.

Technology News

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said Diablo III for the PC has sold 3.5 million units in the first 24 hours of availability to become the fastest-selling PC title in history.

The publisher said the strategy sequel sold 6.3 million units in global territories in the first week.

Amazon.com Inc. in May said Diablo III ranked as the best-selling PC pre-order title of all time.

The retailer said pre-order sales for the strategy sequel have surpassed Starcraft II and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.

Diablo III is an action role-playing sequel that will include single-player and drop-in, drop-out co-op via the Battle.net service.

The final game includes five character classes, static and randomly generated levels, and skill-modifiers.

Remedy Entertaiment this week said Alan Wake’s American Nightmare to the PC is now available for download via Steam or GOG.com.

The PC version includes new graphics options and the all-new Nightmare difficulty mode, customizable controls, stereoscopic 3D, multi-screen, and Fight till Dawn arcade mode.
