Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware increased in latest retail data from Japan.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 9,200 units between Apr. 23 and Apr. 29 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 7,025 units the week prior.

Mario Party 9 ranked as the No. 2 best-selling software for the week, selling 152,883 units at launch.

Nintendo in Apr. recorded a $460 million loss for the fiscal year amid lower-than-expected sales of the Nintendo 3DS handheld and the Wii console.

In the year it sold 9.8 million Wii consoles, down from an estimate of 13 million

The Wii holds a global install base of 51 million units.

Nintendo will release Wii U, the successor the Wii hardware, in 2012.
