Sony Corp. this week announced the availability of Amazon.com Inc.’s Amazon Instant Video application for the Playstation 3.
The application will allow PS3 owners to rent or purchase more than 120,000 movie and TV shows.
In addition, Amazon Prime members will be able to watch more than 17,000 Prime Instant Videos at no additional cost.
The PS3 is the first console to offer Amazon Instant Video to owners.
To utilize Amazon Instant Video, users must download a small client application and register their PS3 hardware at Amazon.com with a five-digit code.
Microsoft Corp. in Mar. announced the availability of HBO Go, Xfinity, and MLB.tv to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.
Sony in Jan. said it sold 6.5 million PS3 units in Q3, an increase of 200,000 units one year prior. PS3 software sales totaled 66.5 million units, an increase from 57.6 million units one year ago.
The Consumer Products and Services division, which includes the Playstation business, recorded revenue of $13.1 billion, down from $17.3 billion one year ago.
