Microsoft Corp.’s next Xbox 360 hardware may include a new multi-core CPU and a Blu-ray disc drive according to a new report.
Consumer website VG247 this week claimed the next Xbox will include a four to six core CPU in addition to a graphics card based on AMD Inc.’s 7000 series GPUs.
The GPU is said to include two chips that can work independently to draw separate items simultaneously.
Finally, the hardware may include built-in Kinect functionality and a persistent internet connection to combat piracy.
Microsoft in Jan. said the Entertainment and Devices, which includes the Xbox business, held a 15 percent increase in second quarter earnings.
The division held revenue of $4.24 billion, a 15 percent increase from the year prior.
In the past fiscal year, 8.2 million Xbox 360 units were sold. The hardware has sold 66 million units worldwide to date.
