Microsoft Corp. this week said it will sell new Xbox 360 Special Edition Chrome Series Wireless Controller to U.S. retail in mid-May.

The controllers will be available in Blue, Red, and Silver, and will include the transforming D-pad at $54.99 each.

Microsoft in Jan. said the Xbox 360has sold 66 million units globally.

In addition, it has sold 18 million Kinect sensors and holds 40 million Xbox Live members.

For 2011, the Xbox 360 held 49 percent of video game consumer spending with $6.7 billion, with $2.1 billion in hardware sales and $4.6 billion in games and accessories sales.
