Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 held as the second best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.

Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 25,750 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 27,900 to rank third the week prior.

The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Capcom Co.’s Devil May Cry HD Collection at No. 4, Koei Tecmo Corp.’s Ninja Gaiden 3 at No. 5, and Compile Heart’s Attouteki Yuugi: Mugen Souls at No. 6.

Retailer Inc. this week price cut the Playstation 3 320GB SKU to under $280 in a permanent discount.

The PS3 320GB now holds a sale price of $274.99, eight percent off the $299.99 MSRP.

At the discounted price, the 320GB SKU sells at $25 more than the PS3 160GB SKU, which sells at $249.99.

Sony this week announced a wave of new titles to be released to the Playstation Home division.

New titles include Cutthroats: Battle for Black Power Cove – a 24-player pirate ship battle game. The title is free to play and offers premium coins to allow users to pay for upgrades. It is available now.

No Man’s Land is a brand new cover-based shooter to be sold in spring 2012. In addition, Mercia is a dungeon-based multiplayer role-playing game to be sold in summer 2012.

Finally, the new Adventure District is now available and includes access to Cutthroats: Battle for Black Power Cove.

Developer thatgamecompany this week said the company’s title Journey for the Playstation Network division is the fastest-selling game released in the U.S. to the division.

In addition, the soundtrack for the title will be sold at the Playstation Store and Apple Inc.’s iTunes Apr. 10.

Journey is a non-traditional adventure title in which users venture through the desert towards a mountain. During the trek, users can meet and help each other with only a communicative shout.

The title was released Mar. 13.

Sony this week released the PlayMemories Studio software to the Playstation Network division.

PlayMemories Studio allows users to manage, edit, and share photos and videos from the Playstation 3. In addition, the software can be used on the Playstation Vita and PSP via Remote Play.

PlayMemories Studio sells at $15.00. Playstation Plus members and recent purchasers of a Sony camera or camcorder can download the app at no cost.

EA Inc. this week released a patch update to Battlefield 3 for the Playstation 3.

The major update includes significant gameplay, vehicle, and weapons fixes for the title.

In addition, users can turn off anti-aliasing to reduce input lag.

NIS America Inc. this week announced a new wave of role-playing titles to be sold for the Playstation 3.

The Witch and the Hundred Knights, to be sold in early 2013, is a brand new action RPG that includes full 3D environments, chain attacks, and multiple weapons.

Mugen Souls, to be sold in fall 2012, is a turn-based combat RPG to include free-roaming battle maps, customization options and expansive worlds.

Finally, Legasista, to be sold this Aug. exclusively in the Playstation Network division, is a dungeon-crawler RPG that includes randomly-generated dungeons and character customization.

Sony this week said it will release Ubisoft Inc.’s Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Beta to Playstation Plus members in Apr.

The beta is said to be exclusive and will be deployed for early access to Playstation Plus members of the Playstation Network division.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, to be sold May 22, includes an all-new, 12-hour single-player campaign in 12 missions, four-player online campaign co-op functionality, competitive multiplayer mode for up to 16, and Gunsmith Mode to create custom weapons for use in all game modes.

Capcom Co. this week released the first DLC for Asura’s Wrath.

Episode 11.5 is a new level that explores the events between two episodes in the full game.

It sells at $1.99 via PSN or 160 Microsoft Points.

Future DLC includes Episode 15.5 (Apr. 3), four brand new episodes (Apr. 24), and battle episodes between Street Fighter characters Ryu (May 5) and Akuma (May 16).

Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita totaled nearly half the PSP in the latest Japan retail figures.

The PS Vita sold 10,302 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 10,021 the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales for the week.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 19,875 units to rank third in the same period.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment this week said Mortal Kombat for the Playstation Vita will be sold May 1 to U.S. retail.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios, the title is said to build upon the 2011 release with original game content and new features.

Mortal Kombat, released in 2011, is a reboot of the classic fight franchise with new fatalities, x-ray moves, and a 2-D fighting plane.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware remained low in the latest Japan retail figures.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 1,084 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 1,145 units to rank at No. 6 the week prior.

Tecmo Koei Corp.’s Ninja Gaiden 3 ranked at No. 33 upon release in the region.

Microsoft this week announced the availability of HBO Go, Xfinity, and to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.

Current Xbox Live customers require subscriptions to each service in order to access the respective content via Xbox Live.

HBO Go includes live and on-demand access to HBO content; Xfinity from Comcast Corp. offer on-demand entertainment, and offers live and on-demand games in high-definition.

All three services offer Kinect functionality for voice and motion commands.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. this month began offering bonus C-3PO unlockable with the pre-order purchase of the Xbox 360 Kinect Star Wars Bundle.

This week, customers who pre-order the product at will receive an exclusive C-3PO unlockable bonus to be used in the Kinect Star Wars game Dance Mode.

The Xbox 360 Limited Edition Star Wars Kinect Bundle, to be sold Apr. 3, will include a R2-D2 blue-and-white themed 320GB console, custom Xbox 360 Wireless Controller inspired by C-3PO, white Kinect sensor, Kinect Star Wars game at $449.99.

Take Two Interactive Inc. this week announced a new pre-order bonus for Max Payne 3.

The publisher this week said customers who pre-order the title prior to Apr. 15 will receive access to the Pill Bottle Loadout item, which allows multiplayer users to carry more painkillers in battle, at no additional cost.

The Pill Bottle will be sold separately at a later date.

Additional pre-order incentives include Deadly Force Burst to offer higher damage bullets in multiplayer.

Ubisoft Inc. this week released new details for Assassin’s Creed III.

The title will include a brand new Revolutionary War setting that will chronicle a new assassin named Connor. The story will take place over 30 years in a epic story placed in select historical events.

Assassin’s Creed III will incorporate fighting and stealth abilities in new frontier locations that allow Connor to scale trees and cliffs.

In addition, the control setup will be brand new to offer tactile functionality and dexterity.

Finally, the title will include hunting functionality to hunt, track, and skin wildlife.

Capcom Co. this week released the Capcom Digital Collection to the Xbox 360.

The Capcom Digital Collection, which includes eight titles previously available in the Xbox Live Arcade division, sells at $39.99.

Titles include 1942: Joint Strike, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, Final Fight Double Impact, Flock!, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil including Rocketmen: It Came From Uranus expansion, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3.

Microsoft this month said it will being the Arcade Next game launch initiative to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360 Apr. 18.

The Arcade Next program will launch a new library of original game titles to the Xbox Live Arcade division from Apr. 18 to May 9.

Titles include Trials Revolution (Apr. 18) at 1200 Microsoft Points, Bloodforge (Apr. 25) at 1200 Microsoft Points, Fable Heroes (May 2) at 800 Microsoft Points, and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (May 9) at 1600 Microsoft Points.

Microsoft this month said Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ranked as the top Xbox Live title in recent usage data.

For the week ending Mar. 19, Modern Warfare 3 ranked as the No. 1 Xbox Live title based on unique users.

Call of Duty: Black Ops ranked at No. 2 and EA Inc.’s FIFA 2012 ranked third in the same period.

Microsoft this week released the Gears of War 3 Forces of Nature Map Pack to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.

The Forces of Nature Map Pack includes five new multiplayer maps, each with unique weather conditions: Aftermath (Flooding City), Artillery (Tornado), Cover (Fog), Jacinto (Rainstorm and Imulsion), and Raven Down (Snowstorm).

Also included are 250 Achievement Points and four new multiplayer characters; the Savage Hunter, and new variants of Commando Dom, Mechanic Baird, and the Savage Grenadier Elite.

The DLC is sold at 800 Microsoft Points.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week released the Full Trailer for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

The new trailer features a cinematic look at the destructive battle between the Autobots and Decepticons prior to their relocation to Earth.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, to be sold Aug. 28, is the follow-up to Transformers: War for Cybertron.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware ranked below more popular handheld devices in latest retail data from Japan.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 9,270 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 8,127 units the week prior.

Nintendo Co. this week said it will sell Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii with the Wii Classic Controller Pro in a new direct sales configuration.

This week, customers can pre-order Xenoblade Chronicles with the Wii Classic Controller Pro at $64.99 in a limited edition bundle.

Developed by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles, to be sold Apr. 6, is an science-fiction RPG adventure title that includes an open-world universe.

The final game will include customizable characters, upgrade system, relationship-building system, and a battle system that includes chain attacks and Arts spells.

It will be sold Apr. 2012 at $49.99.

Sales for the Nintendo 3DS held as the top-selling game hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 94,011 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 64,017 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked four titles in the top 10 for the week, including Kid Icarus: Uprising at No. 1, Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter 3G at No. 7, Mario Kart 7 at No. 8, and Super Mario 3D Land at No. 9.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 1,058 units and the Nintendo DSi sold 778 units for the week.

Nintendo’s Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition for the Nintendo DS ranked as the No. 3 title for the week.

XSEED Games this week said it will release The Unchained Blades to Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS and Sony Corp.’s PSP handheld in 2012.

Developed by FuRyu, The Unchained Blades includes 13 main characters each created by a different artist, Unchain System to try to convince monsters to follow and join the user’s four-person party, and 60 hours of gameplay.

The final game was directed by Toshio Akashi of the Lunar series, and written by Takashi Hino from the Grandia series.

Rovio Entertainment Ltd. this week said Angry Birds Space has reached 10 million downloads in less than three days since release in late Mar.

Angry Birds Space, which updates the bird launching title into orbit with new atmospheric-based physics, is sold in a free ad-based download, an ad-free download at 99 cents, and HD download at $2.99.

The original Angry Birds title has been downloaded more than 500 million times in global territories.

Microsoft this month said Xbox Live members now spend more time accessing entertainment services than playing games, in a new report by The Los Angeles Times.

Yusuf Mehdi, Chief Marketing Officer for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, said households spend an average of 84 hours a month on Xbox Live, more of than half of which is spent on videos and music. The figure is a 30 percent increase in usage of the service from one year ago.

Current services include Netflix, Hulu, Vudu and YouTube.
