Target Corp. this week price cut Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS handheld by about 15 percent in the largest discount to date for the 3D-enabled handheld.
Through Mar. 31, customers can purchase the Nintendo 3DS at $145, $25 off the $169.99 MSRP.
Nintendo in Mar. said the Nintendo 3DS has sold 4.5 million units in its first year at U.S. retail.
By comparison, the Nintendo DS sold 2.3 million units in its first year at U.S. retail in 2004.
Sales of Nintendo 3DS hardware, software and accessories totaled $1.2 billion in the first year.
Super Mario 3D Land has sold 1.75 million units to date, while Mario Kart 7 has sold 1.45 million units in the U.S.
Nintendo in Aug. 2011 price cut the Nintendo 3DS to $169.99 from $249.99 citing slow sales.
