Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 held as the second best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.

Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 27,900 units between Mar. 12 and Mar. 18 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 34,816 to rank third the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, including Namco Bandai Games Inc.’s One Piece: Pirate Warriors at No. 4.

Sony this week said it will release LittleBigPlanet Karting to the Playstation 3 in 2012.

Developed by United Front Games, the kart racing title is said to include a new campaign and level editor with the ability to share custom tracks.

Sony this week price cut the Playstation Move Deadmund’s Quest Bundle for the Playstation 3 to under $80 in a permanent retail discount.

The Playstation Move Deadmund’s Quest Bundle now sells at $79.99, 20 percent off the former $99.99 MSRP.

The bundle includes the Playstation Move controller, Navigation controller, Playstation Eye, Deadmund’s Quest and Sports Champions.

Starhawk for the Playstation 3 ranked in the top 20 game sales at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s online division this week due to building demand.

This week, Starhawk ranked as the No. 16 best-selling pre-order product at Walmart.com.

Starhawk, to be sold May 8, will include a single-player campaign and online multiplayer functionality.

Sony this week said EA Inc.’s The Simpsons Arcade Game ranked as the top-selling title in the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3.

The Simpsons Arcade Game ranked as the No. 1 download title in Feb.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Inc.’s Gotham City Imposters at No. 2 and Sega Corp.’s The House of the Dead III ranked third in the same period.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Armored Core V is a decent action title that incorporates a new persistent online world to recruit comrades and take over the world or enter in a small campaign skirmish in a Final Review.

The PS Vita sold 10,021 units between Mar. 12 and Mar. 18 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 10,041 the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales for the week.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 18,633 units to rank third in the same period.

Escape Plan for the Playstation Vita ranked as the top-selling download title for the hardware in Feb. U.S. sales.

Escape Plan ranked as the No. 1 PS Vita download title in Feb., followed by Super Stardust Delta at No. 2, and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack at No. 3.

Sony Corp. this week released the Story Trailer for Resistance: Burning Skies for the Playstation Vita.

The trailer is an animated sequence that introduces the title’s new story, in addition to a montage game footage, including the new Chimeran enemy called the Executioner.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware remained low in the latest Japan retail figures.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 1,145 units between Mar. 12 and Mar. 18 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 1,290 units to rank at No. 6 the week prior.

This week, the Xbox 360 Limited Edition Star Wars Kinect Bundle ranked as the No. 16 best-selling pre-order product at Gamestop.com.

The bundle, to be sold Apr. 3, will include a R2-D2 blue-and-white themed 320GB console, custom Xbox 360 Wireless Controller inspired by C-3PO, white Kinect sensor, Kinect Star Wars game at $449.99.

For the week ending Mar. 5, Modern Warfare 3 ranked as the No. 1 Xbox Live title based on unique users.

Call of Duty: Black Ops ranked at No. 2 and EA Inc.’s FIFA 2012 ranked third in the same period.

Capcom Co. this week released Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City to U.S. retail.

Developed by Capcom and Slant 6 Games, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a third-person team-based shooter set between events in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.

Konami Corp. this week released Silent Hill HD Collection to to U.S. retail.

Silent Hill HD Collection includes Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 remastered at 720p HD resolution.

In addition, the title includes a fully updated in-game voiceover and soundtrack score and Trophies support.

Capcom Co. this week said it will release World Gone Sour in Apr.

The title will be sold via PSN Apr. 10 at $4.99 and Xbox Live Apr. 11 at 400 Microsoft Points.

The new action adventure title is based on the Sour Patch Kids brand of candy in which users must guide a lost piece of candy to a human stomach.

Atlus Inc. this week said released the Combat Walkthrough Trailer for Game of Thrones.

The trailer features an overview of game mechanics, tactical options, and character customization options.

Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a decent squad-based shooter that injects standard aim-and-shoot fare, though the title loses its franchise DNA in the experiment in a Final Review.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storms Generations is a nimble dream match that offers epic battles from a large roster of franchise veterans in a Final Review.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware held firm in the latest retail data from Japan.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 8,127 units between Mar. 12 and Mar. 18 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 8,322 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales.

Sales for the Nintendo 3DS held as the top-selling game hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 64,017 units between Mar. 12 and Mar. 18 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 68,951 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked five titles in the top 10 for the week, including Sega Corp.’s Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai at No. 6, D3 Publisher Inc.’s If I Were Sealed in a Room with a Girl, I’d Probably at No. 7, Mario Kart 7 at No. 8, Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter 3G at No. 9, and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games at No. 10.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 850 units and the Nintendo DSi sold 502 units for the week.

Nintendo’s Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition for the Nintendo DS ranked as the No. 1 title for the week.

Nintendo this week released Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is a new third-person action shooter.

Apple Inc. this week said it has sold three million new iPad units since launch in mid-Mar.

The tablet, which began sale Mar. 16 in the U.S., will be sold in 24 additional countries Mar. 23.

“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold ― the strongest iPad launch yet,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

The new iPad includes a retina display that yields a 2048 x 1536 resolution and an A5X CPU that includes quad-core graphics functionality.
