Apple Inc. this week said it has sold three million new iPad units since launch in mid-Mar.
The tablet, which began sale Mar. 16 in the U.S., will be sold in 24 additional countries Mar. 23.
“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold ― the strongest iPad launch yet,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
The new iPad includes a retina display that yields a 2048 x 1536 resolution and an A5X CPU that includes quad-core graphics functionality.
The 5MP iSight camera includes backside illumination, IR filter, stabilization and 1080p video recording functionality.
Finally, the new iPad incorporates voice dictation via the built-in microphone.
The 16GB SKU sells at $499.99, 32GB at $599.99 and 64GB SKU at $699.99.
In addition, new 4G LTE models are sold via AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless at $629, $729 and $829.
Battery life is estimated at 10 hours for the Wi-Fi and 3G models, and nine hours for the 4G LTE SKUs.
The iPad sold 15.5 million units in the recent quarter.
