Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 held as the second best-selling hardware in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 34,816 units between Mar. 5 and Mar. 11 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 65,116 to rank third the week prior.
The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Bandai Namco Games Inc.’s One Piece: Pirate Warriors at No. 1, Capcom Co.’s Street Fighter X Tekken at No. 3, and Mobile Suit Gundam UC # at No. 4.
Sega Corp. this week said it will release House of the Dead 4 to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 in Apr. 17.
House of the Dead 4 is an arcade lightgun shooter that includes new Playstation Move compatibility, Multiplayer Mode, Multiple Paths, Ranking and Grading System, Additional Levels, Bonus Unlockable Playstation Home item, Original Creator Interview and Trophies.
A demo will be released Apr. 10 to Playstation Plus members and will receive 30 percent off the title through May 1.
For the first two weeks post release, all buyers will receive an avatar gift at no cost.
Sony this month demonstrated the title Datura for the Playstation 3 at the 2012 Game Developers Conference.
Developed by Plastic Studios, Datura is an interactive adventure title that utilizes the Playstation Move controller.
Users employ the Move controller to manipulate a virtual hand which can be used contextually to open gates, grab items, or swing a pick axe.
The title will be released to the Playstation Network division in 2012.
Sega this week released Yakuza: Dead Souls for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.
Sony this week said it will release the Ratchet & Clank Collection to the Playstation 3 this fall.
Ratchet & Clank Collection will include remastered versions of Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal in 1080p HD or 720p in stereoscopic 3D.
In addition, the title will include three platinum Trophies and online competitive multiplayer functionality from Up Your Arsenal.
Capcom Co. this week said it will release Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 this June.
Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection includes Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. Both titles were previously released to Nintendo Co.’s Wii.
Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection will include Playstation Move functionality for solo or co-op shooting action. In addition, the title can be played with a wireless controller.
Yakuza: Dead Souls includes Yakuza hero Kazuma Kiryu and three additional playable characters to face an army of zombies in Tokyo.
The title include melee combat and new gunplay options, from pistols to machine guns to rocket launchers.
Like prior entries, the title includes brand new mini-games.
Namco Bandai America Inc. this week released Tales of Graces f for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.
Tales of Graces f includes a new combat system, dynamic weapon swap functionality, and high-definition graphics.
In addition, the title includes the Style Shift system to switch fighting styles in combat, a Lineage and Legacies epilogue that features 10 hours of gameplay, and new open-world environments.
Demand for the Playstation Vita held a soft status in the latest Japan retail figures.
The PS Vita sold units between Mar. 5 and Mar. 11 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 10,041 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales for the week.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 16,176 units to rank third in the same period.
Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week released Ridge Racer for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita to U.S. retail.
Ridge Racer includes an all-new custom drift system, Machine Upgrade Map to create original machines, and online multiplayer functionality for up to eight users.
Customers who purchase Ridge Racer at retail stores will receive the Ridge Racer Gold Pass at no cost, which includes five additional machines, three additional course, two music tracks, and one new extended music mix.
Download customers who purchase the title at the Playstation Store prior to Apr. 30 will receive the Ridge Racer Gold Pass at no cost.
The Gold Pass will be sold separately at $7.49.
Later this spring, the Ridge Racer Silver Pass will include additional premium DLC content, including three additional, machines, three additional courses, two music tracks and one extended music mix at $6.99.
Sony this month began sale of the Unit 13 Digital Download SKU for the Playstation Vita at the Playstation Network at less than the physical retail SKU.
Unit 13 holds an MSRP of $35.99, $4.00 off the $39.99 retail SKU.
Sony in Feb. began selling digital download copies of PS Vita titles for less than physical retail copies. First-party titles typically hold a discount of 10 percent or more.
Unit 13 is a new third-person action shooter that includes 36 missions in nine locations.
The title includes 36 small, replayable missions to be played solo or with a friend. In addition, the title will include touch controls to pick up weapons, reload, vault over barriers or access the map.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware remained cold in the latest Japan retail figures.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 1,290 units between Mar. 5 and Mar. 11 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 1,248 units to rank at No. 6 the week prior.
The hardware ranked one title in the top 15, Capcom Co.’s Street Fighter X Tekken at No. 14.
Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 Special Edition Kinect Sports Bundle is now available at U.S. retail.
The new limited edition configuration includes a glossy white Xbox 360 4GB console, glossy white Kinect sensor, white Xbox 360 wireless controller and a copy Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures at $299.99.
The special edition white Xbox 360 wireless controller sells separately at $49.99 each.
2K Games, a division of Take Two Interactive Inc., this week released the Handyman Trailer Bioshock Infinite for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC.
The Motorized Patriot Trailer includes a behind-the-scenes look the Handyman, which wields giant metallic hands to destroy enemies.
Bioshock Infinite is a first-person shooter title to be released in 2012.
Activision Blizzard Inc. this week released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Content Drops 4-6 to Call of Duty: Elite Premium Members in the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.
Elite Content Drop 4-6 includes Black Box, in addition to the new Special Ops Missions – Black Ice and Negotiator.
Black Box includes a downed Air Force One amid homes overlooking the luxurious Southern California neighborhood. In Black Ice, users infiltrate a diamond mine aboard a snowmobile. And in Negotiator, users must extract VIP hostages in India.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week price cut Tecmo Koei America Inc.’s Ninja Gaiden 3 for the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 in advance of the title’s release.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware held steady in the latest retail data from Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 8,322 units between Mar. 5 and Mar. 11 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.
By comparison, the Wii sold 8,111 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 100 game sales.
Nintendo this week released Mario Party 9 for the Wii hardware to U.S. retail.
Mario Party 9 includes 80 all-new mini-games.
The game includes 80 all-new mini-games and features all players moving through game boards together in a vehicle for competitive and cooperative play.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS hardware and games dominated Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 68,951 units between Mar. 5 and Mar. 11 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 70,744 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked seven titles in the top 10 for the week, including Sega Corp.’s Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai at No. 2, Konami Corp.’s Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D at No. 5, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games at No. 6, Mario Kart 7 at No. 7, Super Mario 3D Land at No. 8, Marvel AQL’s Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin at No. 9, and Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter 3G at No. 10.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 850 units and the Nintendo DSi sold 502 units for the week.
Nintendo Co. this week said Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS will include a pack of AR Cards to be used with the final game.
AR Cards will feature characters, enemies, bosses, weapons and items from the game that will unlock a corresponding Idol. Also, users can view each item in 3D with the Nintendo 3DS camera.
A total of six out of 20 randomly selected AR Cards will be included in each copy of the title.
In addition, customers can collect additional AR Cards from Club Nintendo, select GameStop Corp. retail locations Apr. 14, publications including Nintendo Power, and events like PAX East in Apr.
Kid Icarus: Uprising, to be sold Mar. 23, is a new third-person action shooter.
Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said Diablo III for the PC will be sold at U.S. retail May 15.
Diablo III is an action role-playing sequel that will include single-player an drop-in, drop-out co-op via the Battle.net service.
The final game is said to include five character classes, static and randomly generated levels, and skill-modifiers.

Apple Inc. this week released the new iPadto U.S. retail.
The new iPad, to be sold Mar. 16, will include a retina display that yields a 2048 x 1536 resolution and an A5X CPU that includes quad-core graphics functionality.
The 5MP iSight camera includes backside illumination, IR filter, stabilization and 1080p video recording functionality.
Finally, the new iPad incorporates voice dictation via the built-in microphone.
The 16GB SKU will sell at $499.99, 32GB at $599.99 and 64GB SKU at $699.99.
In addition, new 4G LTE models will be sold via AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless at $629, $729 and $829.
Battery life is estimated at 10 hours for the Wi-Fi and 3G models, and nine hours for the 4G LTE SKUs.
