Toys R Us Inc. this week began holding a new Mario game sale for Nintendo Co.’s Wii, the Nintendo 3DS, and the Nintendo DS at brick and mortar stores and online.
Though Mar. 17, customers who purchase one Mario title for the Wii, Nintendo 3DS, or Nintendo DS will receive a second at no additional cost.
Nintendo in Mar. said the Nintendo 3DS has sold 4.5 million units in its first year at U.S. retail.
By comparison, the Nintendo DS sold 2.3 million units in its first year at U.S. retail in 2004.
Sales of Nintendo 3DS hardware, software and accessories totaled $1.2 billion in the first year.
The Wii holds a global install base of 51 million units.
