Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 spiked in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 65,116 units between Feb. 27 and Mar. 4 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 27,111 to rank third the week prior.
The Playstation 3 ranked as the second best-selling next-generation console in the latest Feb. U.S. data.
NPD Group Inc. this week said the PS3 ranked second behind Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 in overall hardware sales for the month.
The hardware sold an estimated 360,000 units for the month.
Sony this week said Sorcery for the Playstation 3 will be sold May 22 to U.S. retail.
The third-person action adventure title allows users to utilize the Playstation Move peripheral to control magic and cast gesture-based spells.
In the title, Finn must defeat the Nightmare Queen in a quest that spans locations including the Endless Stair, the Faerie Forest, and the Slumbering Palace.
Namco Bandai America Inc.’s Tales of Graces f for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 trekked to the top three pre-order sales at GameStop Corp.’s online division pending release of the RPG title.
This week, Tales of Graces f ranked as the No. 3 best-selling pre-order product at Gamestop.com.
It previously ranked at No. 6 in the division.
Sony this week said Dust 514 will a free MMORPG for the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3.
Developed by CCP Games, the sci-fi first-person shooter and strategy title will include interaction with the Eve Online universe and cross-platform play between PS3 and PS Vita owners.
The final game will include battlefield engagements, strategic planning, and modular weapons and vehicles.
Dust 514, to be released summer 2012, will be exclusive to the PS3.
Sony this week released MotorStorm RC to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation Vita at no cost.
The download, which is a free download due to a partnership with Scion, will include a custom RC version of the Scion iQ.
MotorStorm RC is a new radio-controlled simulation off-road racer that includes renditions of all four MotorStorm worlds and eight vehicle classes, including Buggies, Superminis, Rally Cars, Muscle Cars and Racing Trucks.
The final game includes 16 tracks and four-player split-screen multiplayer.
Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week a delay in the release of Ridge Racer Unbounded.
The publisher said the title will be released later in 2012 in order to include additional features.
Sales for the Playstation Vita continued to fall in the latest Japan retail figures.
The PS Vita sold 10,023 units between Feb. 27 and Mar. 4 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,186 the week prior.
The sales marked a new low in demand for the PS Vita since launch of the hardware in Japan Dec. 17.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales for the week.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 15,715 units to rank third in the same period.
The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10, including Bandai Namco Games Inc.’s One Piece: Pirate Warriors at No. 1 and Naruto Shippuden: Narutimate Storm Generation at No. 7.
Sony this week the Music Unlimited service is now available for the Playstation Vita.
Music Unlimited is a cloud-based music subscription service that includes 15 million licensed songs from global labels.
With the service, users can cache playlists and channels when a Wi-Fi or 3G service is unavailable. Music Unlimited can be accessed from other devices including mobile and home products.

NPD Group Inc. this week said the PS Vita ranked as the fifth best-selling game hardware for the month with an estimated 225,000 units sold for the month.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss held as the top-selling download title for the Playstation Vita in the latest data from the Playstation Network.
This week, Uncharted: Golden Abyss ranked as the No. 1 Top Download in the PS Vita division of PSN.
The title was followed by Wipeout 2048 and Little Deviants.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware fell back in the latest Japan retail figures.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 1,248 units between Feb. 27 and Mar. 4 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 1,508 units to rank at No. 6 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any software titles in the top 10 for the week.
Microsoft Corp. this week said the Xbox 360 ranked as the top-selling game hardware in U.S. Feb. sales figures.
The Xbox 360 sold 426,000 units to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the month in figures provided by NPD Group Inc.
The ranking marks the 14th consecutive month the Xbox 360 has ranked as the No. 1 hardware in the states. In addition, the hardware held 42 percent share of total next-generation console sales.

The Announcement Trailer includes new boat, rain, and fire-based environments amid explosive cinematic action.
Capcom Co. this week said the Nemesis Mode for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will be available exclusively for download in the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.
In Nemesis Mode the USS Compete against the Spec Ops in an eight-player battle in which users can nab a control unit to direct the Nemesis to destroy the enemy.
The mode will be available launch day at 320 Microsoft Points.
Pre-order sales for LucasArts Inc.’s Kinect Star Wars for the Xbox 360 ranked in the top three at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s online division this week due to strong demand.
This week, Kinect Star Wars ranked as the No. 3 best-selling pre-order product at Walmart.com’s Video Games division.
Kinect Star Wars, to be sold Apr. 3, will include Jedi battles and vehicle piloting with gesture-based controls.
2K Games, a division of Take Two Interactive Inc., this week released the Motorized Patriot Trailer Bioshock Infinite.
The Motorized Patriot Trailer includes a behind-the-scenes look at new robotic enemies, including a Motorized George Washington robot that can deploy relentless gunfire.
Bioshock Infinite is a first-person shooter title to be released in 2012.
Capcom Co. this week released Story Trailer No. 2 for Steel Battalion Heavy Armor for Microsoft Corp.’s Kinect for the Xbox 360.
The new trailer features a character voice over to detail the pending war followed by a view of a Vertical Tank heading to battle.
Capcom this week said it will release 12 new fighters to Street Fighter X Tekken this fall.
The 12 fighters include Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy, Sakura, Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack, Lars Alexandersson and Lei Wulong.
The additional fighters will be sold in a premium DLC download for consoles this fall and be included at no cost in the Playstation Vita release.
EA Inc. this week said it will release the Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC in June.
The DLC will include multiplayer maps with tight and vertical construction.
Future DLC drops include Armored Kill for large-scale combat and End Game.

By comparison, the Wii sold 7,878 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 100 game sales.

This week, Xenoblade Chronicles ranked as the No. 1 best-selling pre-order product at Gamestop.com.
Developed by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles is an science-fiction RPG adventure title that includes an open-world universe.
The final game will include customizable characters, upgrade system, relationship-building system, and a battle system that includes chain attacks and Arts spells.
It will be sold Apr. 2012 at $49.99.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS lowered but held the top rank in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 70,744 units between Feb. 27 and Mar. 4 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 76,322 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked six titles in the top 10 for the week, including Sega Corp.’s Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Marvel AQL’s Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin at No. 3, Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Theatrhythm Final Fantasy at No. 5, Mario Kart 7 at No. 6, Super Mario 3D Land at No. 8, and Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter 3G at No. 9.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 810 units and the Nintendo DSi sold 553 units for the week.
Nintendo this week released a new batch of download content to the Nintendo eShop division of the Nintendo 3DS.
New content available Mar. 8 includes Punch-Out!! Featuring. Mr. Dream and Fun! Fun! Minigolf TOUCH!.
Upcoming titles include Zombie Slayer Diox (Mar. 22), Arc Style Soccer!! 3D (Mar. / Apr.), and Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure (Apr. 19).
Apple Inc. this week said the new iPad with high-definition retina display and a quad-core CPU will ship Mar. 16.
The new iPad retina display will yield a 2048 x 1536 resolution and an A5X CPU that is said to include quad-core graphics functionality.
The 5MP iSight camera backside illumination, IR filter, stabilization and 1080p video recording functionality.
Finally, the new iPad will incorporate voice dictation via the built-in microphone.
The 16GB SKU will sell at $499.99, 32GB at $599.99 and 64GB SKU at $699.99.
In addition, new 4G LTE models will be sold via AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless at $629, $729 and $829.
Apple says battery life will clock in at 10 hours for the Wi-Fi and 3G models, and nine hours for the 4G LTE SKUs.
