Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 were solid in the latest Japan retail activity.

Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 21,993 units between Feb. 13 and Feb. 19 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 22,002 to rank third the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Sega Corp.’s Binary Domain at No. 2.

Sony this week released the Starhawk Multiplayer Beta for the Playstation 3 to the Playstation Network division.

The Beta includes levels Scourge and Space. In addition, the beta will be updated with a new map, new vehicles, new weapons, and 32-player matches.

Starhawk, to be sold May 8, will include a single-player campaign and online multiplayer functionality.

Sony this week said it will release MotorStorm RC to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita Mar. 6.

MotorStorm RC is a new radio-controlled simulation off-road racer that includes renditions of all four MotorStorm worlds and eight vehicle classes, including Buggies, Superminis, Rally Cars, Muscle Cars and Racing Trucks.

The final game includes 16 tracks, four-player split-screen multiplayer, and access to PS3 and PS Vita versions with the purchase of either SKU.

It will sell at $9.99.

Sony this week said customers who pre-order EA Inc.’s Mass Effect 3 in the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 will receive an exclusive bonus.

VBlack Entertainment Inc. this week said the title Retro City Rampage will drop to the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita hardware in May.

The 80’s style action game is a downloadable title that pays homage to 8-bit action titles.

Customers who pre-order the Mass Effect 3 digital SKU will receive the M55 Argus Rifle in-game weapon and an exclusive Mass Effect 3 PS3 Theme.

NIS America Inc.’s Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 is a decent dungeon crawler that covers a plain interface with a dynamic battle system and customizable options for a unique mission-based experience in a Final review.

Sales for the Playstation Vita declined in the latest Japan retail figures.

The PS Vita sold 12,309 units between Feb. 13 and Feb. 19 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 13,939 the week prior.

The sales marked a new low in demand for the PS Vita since launch of the hardware in Japan Dec. 17.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Gravity Rush at No. 10.

Sony Corp. this week launched the Playstation Vita handheld hardware to U.S. retail.

In addition, the handheld launched simultaneously in Europe, Canada and Latin America.

The U.S. launch follows the launch of the PS Vita First Edition launch bundle, which shipped one week early.

Sony this week released System Software Update v1.61 to the Playstation Vita to coincide with launch of the hardware.

System Software Update v1.61 the new Maps application, video recording functionality in the Photo application, ability to publish stories about products rated at the Playstation Store to Facebook, player information display in near application, and the Mac OS release and Windows update of Content Manager Assistant for Playstation.

Strategy Analytics Inc. this week said Sony Corp. will sell 12.4 million units of the Playstation Vita handheld should the company price cut the device within the year.

The firm this week forecast PS Vita sales at 12.4 million globally this year under the assumption the hardware will see a price cut.

Sony this week began sales of digital download titles for the Playstation Vita at up to 10 percent less than physical retail copies amid launch of the new hardware.

Unit 13 for the Playstation Vita ranked in the top 15 pre-order sales at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s online division this week due to strong advanced demand.

Unit 13 is a new third-person action shooter that will include 36 missions in nine locations.

Sony this week released the Uncharted: Golden Abyss Treasure Map Pack for the Playstation Vita to the Playstation Network division.

The Treasure Map Pack is a DLC that integrates Treasure Maps directly to Drake’s journal to allow users to see all locations of available treasures in each of the title’s 34 levels.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware fell below 1,000 units in the latest Japan retail figures.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 983 units between Feb. 13 and Feb. 19 to rank No. 6 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 1,139 units to rank at No. 6 the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any software titles in the top 10 for the week.

Pre-order sales for LucasArts Inc.’s Kinect Star Wars for the Xbox 360 held in the top 10 sales at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s online division pending release of the the title next month.

This week, Kinect Star Wars ranked as the No. 9 best-selling pre-order product in Amazon’s Video Games division.

Kinect Star Wars, to be sold Apr. 3, will include Jedi battles and vehicle piloting with gesture-based controls.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Inc.’s Gotham City Imposters for the Xbox 360 ranked as the top Xbox Live Arcade title in the latest digital download sales data.

For the week of Feb. 13, Gotham City Imposters ranked as the No. 1 Xbox Live title based on full versions purchased.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said released the third Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC to Call of Duty: Elite Premium Members.

Content drop No. 3, Overwatch, is a new multiplayer map set in a construction site on top of a New York City skyscraper. The map includes two levels, a central bridge, an no safety perimeters to prevent falls.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week began offering pre-order bonuses to customers who pre-purchase Konami Corp.’s Silent Hill: Downpour for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 or Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360.

This week, customers who pre-order Silent Hill: Downpour will receive a $10 Bonus Credit and two exclusive bonus weapons.

Sega Corp. this week said it will release Jet Set Radio to Sony Corp.’s Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.

Jet Set Radio was published by Sega for the Dreamcast in 2000. The title features cel-shaded graphics and allows users to tag parts of a virtual city.

Atlus Inc. this week said it will release Persona 4 Arena to Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360.

Developed in partnership with Arc System Works, Persona 4 Arena is a 2D fighting title featuring characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4.

Remedy Entertaiment’s Alan Wake’s American Nightmare for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 is a solid download title that reloads shooting action against a creepy American town backdrop in a Final review.

EA Inc. this week released the Mass Effect 3 ‘Take Earth Back’ Trailer.

The trailer includes a full scale alien attack and an attack against alien forces in a ravaged field.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware dropped below 8,000 units in the latest retail data from Japan.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 7,874 units between Feb. 13 and Feb. 19 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 8,206 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 100 game sales.

Nintendo Co. this week said Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii will be sold in the U.S. Apr. 6.

Developed by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles is an science-fiction RPG adventure title that includes an open-world universe.

XSEED Games this week said it will publish The Last Story to Nintendo Co.’s Wii in the U.S. market in summer 2012.

Developed by Mistwalker, The Last Story is an RPG title that features a band of adventurers in a cinematic adventure.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS climbed in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 94,667 units between Feb. 13 and Feb. 19 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 67,558 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked six titles in the top 10 for the week, including Konami Corp.’s New Love Plus at No. 1, Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Theatrhythm Final Fantasy at No. 3, Mario Kart 7 at No. 4, Super Mario 3D Land at No. 5, Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter Tri G at No. 6, and Resident Evil: Revelations at No. 8.

Nintendo Co. this week detailed the multiplayer modes for Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS.

Multiplayer modes include Light vs. Dark in which two teams of three are pitted against one another, and Free-For-All in which up to six players combat each other for a high score.

Multiplayer features include Match Set-up to setup local or online matches with custom difficulty, weapons, and team handicaps prior to each match.

Weapons and Weapons Fusion allows users to utilize weapons collected in single-player mode for use in multiplayer matches.

Finally, StreetPass functionality allows users to share one of their weapons with other owners.

Capcom Co. this week said Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for the PC will be sold May 18 in the U.S.

In addition, the publisher released the new Brutality Trailer to feature brutal moves available in the final game.

Developed by Capcom and Slant 6 Games, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, to be sold Mar. 20, is a third-person team-based shooter set between events in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.

Pre-order sales for Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Diablo III Collector’s Edition for the PC ranked in the top five sales at GameStop Corp.’s online division.

The Diablo III Collector’s Edition will include the Diablo III PC / Mac SKU, Collector’s Edition Soundtrack, Two-Disc Behind the Scenes DVD / Blu-ray Combo, Diablo Skull and 4GB USB Soulstone, The Art of Diable III Book, Diablo Skull Statuette, and Bonus In-Game Content at $99.99.

The Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G will include a 1.5Ghz Dual-Core CPU, 3.96-inch Super AMOLED display, Google Inc.’s Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread OS, and HSPA+42 functionality.

Bundled applications include TeleNav GPS Navigator, T-Mobile TV in mobile HD, and Netflix.
