Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 were solid in the latest Japan retail activity.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 21,993 units between Feb. 13 and Feb. 19 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 22,002 to rank third the week prior.
The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Sega Corp.’s Binary Domain at No. 2.
Sony this week released the Starhawk Multiplayer Beta for the Playstation 3 to the Playstation Network division.
The Beta includes levels Scourge and Space. In addition, the beta will be updated with a new map, new vehicles, new weapons, and 32-player matches.
Starhawk, to be sold May 8, will include a single-player campaign and online multiplayer functionality.
Sony this week said it will release MotorStorm RC to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita Mar. 6.
MotorStorm RC is a new radio-controlled simulation off-road racer that includes renditions of all four MotorStorm worlds and eight vehicle classes, including Buggies, Superminis, Rally Cars, Muscle Cars and Racing Trucks.
The final game includes 16 tracks, four-player split-screen multiplayer, and access to PS3 and PS Vita versions with the purchase of either SKU.
It will sell at $9.99.
Sony this week said customers who pre-order EA Inc.’s Mass Effect 3 in the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 will receive an exclusive bonus.
VBlack Entertainment Inc. this week said the title Retro City Rampage will drop to the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita hardware in May.
The 80’s style action game is a downloadable title that pays homage to 8-bit action titles.
Customers who pre-order the Mass Effect 3 digital SKU will receive the M55 Argus Rifle in-game weapon and an exclusive Mass Effect 3 PS3 Theme.

The sales marked a new low in demand for the PS Vita since launch of the hardware in Japan Dec. 17.
The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Gravity Rush at No. 10.

In addition, the handheld launched simultaneously in Europe, Canada and Latin America.
The U.S. launch follows the launch of the PS Vita First Edition launch bundle, which shipped one week early.

XSEED Games this week said it will publish The Last Story to Nintendo Co.’s Wii in the U.S. market in summer 2012.
Developed by Mistwalker, The Last Story is an RPG title that features a band of adventurers in a cinematic adventure.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 94,667 units between Feb. 13 and Feb. 19 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 67,558 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked six titles in the top 10 for the week, including Konami Corp.’s New Love Plus at No. 1, Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Theatrhythm Final Fantasy at No. 3, Mario Kart 7 at No. 4, Super Mario 3D Land at No. 5, Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter Tri G at No. 6, and Resident Evil: Revelations at No. 8.
Nintendo Co. this week detailed the multiplayer modes for Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS.
Multiplayer modes include Light vs. Dark in which two teams of three are pitted against one another, and Free-For-All in which up to six players combat each other for a high score.
Multiplayer features include Match Set-up to setup local or online matches with custom difficulty, weapons, and team handicaps prior to each match.
Weapons and Weapons Fusion allows users to utilize weapons collected in single-player mode for use in multiplayer matches.
Finally, StreetPass functionality allows users to share one of their weapons with other owners.
Capcom Co. this week said Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for the PC will be sold May 18 in the U.S.
In addition, the publisher released the new Brutality Trailer to feature brutal moves available in the final game.
Developed by Capcom and Slant 6 Games, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, to be sold Mar. 20, is a third-person team-based shooter set between events in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.
