Sony Corp. this week released Firmware 4.11 to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3.

Firmware 4.11 is an optional firmware update said to improve certain aspects of system software. The update does not require mandatory connectivity to the Playstation Network.

In Feb., Sony released PS3 Firmware Update 4.10. The new software update changed the Playstation Network account name to the Sony Entertainment Network.

In addition, the update is said to offer improvements to the PS3 Internet Browser.

The SEN account name change will be applied to the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita. The PSP will not be affected.

Sony in Jan. said the Playstation 3 hardware has sold 3.9 million worldwide units this past holiday season.

Total sales of Playstation hardware, including the PS2 and PSP topped 6.5 million units globally.

In addition, the company sold 1.7 million Playstation Move controllers in the holiday period.
