Target Corp. this week began offering a $20 credit with the purchase of Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS following a lowered sales forecast for the handheld.

Through Feb. 18, customers who purchase the Nintendo 3DS will receive a $20 Gift Card at no additional cost.

Nintendo in Jan. lowered sales forecasts for the Nintendo 3DS hardware to 14 million units by fiscal Mar. 2012, down from 16 million.

Nintendo in Aug. price cut the Nintendo 3DS by 40 percent in Japan following slow demand and a lack of Mario franchise titles.

The hardware has sold 4.25 million units in the U.S. to date.

New titles to be sold in Q1 include Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil: Revelations, Kid Icarus: Uprising (Mar. 23), and Konami Corp.’s Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater (Q1).
