Media Create Co. this week reported a sales inc for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 23,293 units between Jan. 30 to Feb. 5 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 22,924 to rank third the week prior.

Sony this week released Firmware 4.10 to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3.

The new software update changes the Playstation Network account name to the Sony Entertainment Network.

In addition, the update is said to offer improvements to the PS3 Internet Browser.

The SEN account name change will be applied to the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita. The PSP will not be affected.

Sony this week said sales for the Playstation 3 were solid in Jan. U.S. figures.

The company did not provide unit number sales for the console.

In addition, a hardware peripheral sales doubled due to a ‘Play Days’ promotion which discounted accessories like the Playstation Move below MSRP.

The title includes all three franchise titles remastered in 720p high-definition with stereoscopic 3D functionality.

Sony this week released the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Villain Co-op DLC to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3.

The Fort Co-op Adventure allows users to play as Uncharted villains for the first time, including Zoran Lazarevic, Eddy Raja, and Harry Flynn in story that further explores the Janus head statue.

The DLC is included in The Fortune Hunters’ Club, which offers a total of 14 download packs at $24.99.

The Fort Co-op Adventure is sold separately at $5.99.

Gelid Games this week said it will release Wheels of Destruction: World Tour to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 this quarter.

Wheels of Destruction: World Tour is an vehicle-based arcade combat shooter that includes five vehicle classes in five regions of Europe.

Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita dipped but held above the PSP in the latest Japan retail figures.

The PS Vita sold 17,141 units between Jan. 30 and Feb. 5 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 18,942 the week prior.

The Xbox 360 sold 270,000 units to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the month in figures provided by NPD Group Inc.

The ranking marks the 13th consecutive month the Xbox 360 has ranked as the No. 1 hardware in the states.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said it will release the third Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC to Call of Duty: Elite Premium Members Feb. 21.

Content drop No. 3, Overwatch, is a new multiplayer map set in a construction site on top of a New York City skyscraper. The map includes two levels, a central bridge, an no safety perimeters to prevent falls.

The Call of Duty: Elite program has registered seven million members since launch in Nov. 2011.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 75,018 units between Jan. 30 and Feb. 5 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

Capcom Co. this week released Resident Evil: Revelations for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS to U.S. retail.

Resident Evil: Revelations is a brand new entry in the Resident Evil franchise.

The title introduces the Federal Bioterrorism Commission and the city of Terrogrigia, which was destroyed in a terrorist attack by an organization called Veltro.

Nintendo Co. this week sales for the Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad peripheral.

The Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad adds a second right analog stick to the Nintendo 3DS.

It carries an MSRP of $19.99.

Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS ranked in the top 25 pre-order sales at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s online division this week amid building demand.

Kid Icarus: Uprising will be sold Mar. 23.

The final game will include a stand that holds the Nintendo 3DS at an angle on a flat surface to offer precise left analog control and right-handed stylus play. In addition, the title is compatible with the optional Circle Pad Pro accessory.

All Things D this week reported Apple will hold an event the first week of Mar. to announce the latest product in the iPad category in San Francisco.

A prior report claimed the iPad 3 will include a new quad-core CPU, high-definition display and LTE functionality.

Apple Inc. may be developing a new television product that would incorporate smart TV services.

The product, dubbed iTV, may feature a range of online services, including Apple’s iCloud storage functionality, and standard streaming functions from service providers like Netflix Inc. and Hulu Inc.

In addition, the product will include sharing of user video content.

The product may be sold in the U.S. by June, according to a new report.

Microsoft Corp. this week released Bullet Asylum in the ‘Must Have Games’ initiative for the Windows Phone Games Marketplace.

Bullet Asylum is an arcade shooter that includes classic gameplay, next-generation graphics, and touch-based shooting functionality.

It sells at $2.99.

Amazon.com Inc. this week said it has entered in an agreement with Viacom Inc. to offer network content to the Amazon Prime Video division.

Under the agreement, Viacom will provide access to popular network content from MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, TV Land, and VH1 to Amazon Prime members.

Properties include Dora: The Explorer, iCarly, Chapelle’s Show, Hot in Cleveland, and Jersey Shore.

EA Inc. this week said Star Wars: The Old Republic for the PC has generated 1.7 million subscribers since launch in Dec.

In addition, the title has sold through more than two million units post launch.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMORPG that allows users to create a custom Light or Dark Side character and engage in duels and large-scale multiplayer battles.
