Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said the Call of Duty: Elite program has registered seven million members since launch in Nov. 2011.
Nearly 1.5 million members pay $4.99 per month to access all new additional content for the year.
Modern Warfare 3 players have logged more than 639 million hours of play through Dec. 31.
Digital revenue from download content or subscriptions totaled to $1.6 billion for 2011.
Activision Blizzard this week said it will release the third Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC to Call of Duty: Elite Premium Members Feb. 21.
Content drop No. 3, Overwatch, is a new multiplayer map set in a construction site on top of a New York City skyscraper. The map includes two levels, a central bridge, an no safety perimeters to prevent falls.
Previous content includes the Piazza Map and the Liberation Map.
Overwatch is the third Content Drop in the Modern Warfare 3 Content Season, which will include more than 20 pieces of brand new content over the 9-month initiative. Content drops are available first for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox Live division prior to Sony Corp.’s Playstation Network division.
Activision Blizzard in Dec. said Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has surpassed $1 billion in retail sales.
The shooter, released Nov. 16, achieved the sales milestone in 16 days, one day faster than the feature film Avatar.
In addition, Call of Duty Elite has sold one million premium subscriptions to date. Premium features include daily competitions, download content and prizes.
NPD Group Inc. in Dec. reported Modern Warfare 3 ranked as the No. 1 game title across all platforms, with an estimated nine million copies sold.
