Sony Corp. this week renamed the Playstation Network to the Sony Entertainment Network in order to unify online services across various types of media.
The company told members that PSN will be aligned with the Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) in order to establish a global platform for games, movies, and music from one account.
The SEN account name change will be applied to the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita. The PSP will not be affected.
Sony in Jan. said the Playstation 3 hardware has sold 3.9 million worldwide units this past holiday season.
Total sales of Playstation hardware, including the PS2 and PSP topped 6.5 million units globally.
In addition, the company sold 1.7 million Playstation Move controllers in the holiday period.
