Target Corp. stores this week began selling Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 with a bonus controller post loss in Sony’s Playstation business.
Through Feb. 11, customers who purchase the PS3 160GB SKU at $299.99 will receive a Dualshock 3 Controller at no additional cost.
The Dualshock 3 Controller typically sells at $54.99 each.
Sony in Feb. said the Consumer Products and Services division, which includes the Playstation business, recorded revenue of $13.1 billion, down from $17.3 billion one year ago.
Sony blamed the Aug. 2011 price cut for the Playstation 3 and high marketing costs for network service platforms for the loss in the division.
Despite the loss, the company sold 6.5 million PS3 units, an increase of 200,000 units one year prior. PS3 software sales totaled 66.5 million units, an increase from 57.6 million units one year ago.
