Media Create Co. this week reported a sales decline for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 21,155 units between Jan. 16 to Jan. 22 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 30,332 to rank third the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Koei Tecmo Corp.’s Warriors Orochi 3 at No. 10.

Sony in Dec. said it sold 3.9 million PS3 units during the 2011 holiday season.

The company said it remains on track to meet its fiscal Mar. 2012 target of 15 million units sold worldwide.

Top global holiday titles included Uncharted: Drake’s Deception, Square Enix Co. Ltd.’s Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Namco Bandai Games Inc.’s Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS.

Total sales of Playstation hardware, including the PS2 and PSP topped 6.5 million units globally.

In addition, the company sold 1.7 million Playstation Move controllers in the holiday period.
