Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita fell below the PSP in the latest Japan retail figures.
The PS Vita sold 18,361 units between Jan. 9 and Jan. 15 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 42,815 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 22,538 units to rank third in the same period.
The PS Vita, which launched Dec. 17 in Japan, held sales declines each week in the region before stabilizing the week prior.
However, strong competition from Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS, which sells at 10,000 yen less than the PS Vita, has stifled demand for the new handheld.
The PS Vita, to be sold Feb. 22 in the U.S., will sell in a Wi-Fi only model at $249.99 and a 3G model at $299.99.
The Playstation Vita First Edition Bundle will be sold Feb. 15.
