A retailer in Japan has begun discounting Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita after it posted a 78 percent sales drop in second-week figures.
Edge Online this week reports a Japan retail store price cut the PS Vita 3G SKU by 17 percent to 24,999 yen ($325).
The PS Vita sold 324,859 during launch week in Dec. but demand fell to 72,479 units one week later.
In addition, launch titles Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Hot Shots Golf: World Invitation fell out of the top 35 game sales in second-week retail data.
The PS Vita will be sold in the U.S Feb. 22 in a Wi-Fi SKU at $249.99 and a 3G SKU at $299.99.
First-party launch titles include Escape Plan, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational, Little Deviants, ModNation Racers: Road Trip, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Wipeout 2048.
Key third-party launch titles include EA Inc.’s EA Sports FIFA Soccer, Ubisoft Inc.’s Lumines Electronic Symphony, Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Touch My Katamari, Capcom Co.’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Sega Corp.’s Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition.
