Nintendo Co. this week said sales for the Nintendo 3DS have passed four million units in the U.S.

The company said the Nintendo 3DS has sold more units in the first nine months of sale than the best-selling Wii console.

In addition, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are the first Nintendo 3DS titles to sell 1 million units each in the U.S.

The Nintendo DS family of handhelds sold 3.4 million units in 2011.

Japan-based data firm Enterbrain in Dec. said the Nintendo 3DS has sold 4.1 million units in Japan to date.

New titles to be sold in Q1 include Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil: Revelations (Feb. 6), Kid Icarus: Uprising (Mar. 23), and Konami Corp.’s Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater (Q1).
