Amazon.com Inc. in Dec. said sales for Kindle brand tablets totaled 1 million units per week during the month with the new Kindle Fire leading demand.
Amazon said the Kindle Fire is the best-selling, Most Gifted, and Most Wished For product at the retailer.
The tablet, which includes a 7-inch touchscreen and digital access to Amazon services, began sale Nov. 14 at $199.00.
In addition, Kindle e-book sales increased 175 percent between the Black Friday and Christmas Day shopping period.
Amazon in Dec. released software update 6.2.1 to the Kindle Fire that is said to improve performance, multi-touch navigation, add the ability to edit the list of recent programs, and add a password lock to Wi-Fi access.
