Nintendo Co.’s Mario franchise titles for the Nintendo 3DS held in the top five sales of Toys R Us Inc.’s online division this week due to strong year-end demand.
This week, Mario Kart 7 ranked as the No. 2 best-selling game title at Toysrus.com.
Super Mario 3D Land ranked at No. 4 in the same period.
Mario Kart 7, which began sale Dec. 4, includes brand new tracks that include underwater territory, in addition to trademark power-ups like mushrooms, banana peels, and shells.
Super Mario 3D Land, released Nov. 11, is a brand new adventure that includes new 3D levels and the Tanooki Raccoon Suit power-up.
Both titles sell at $39.99 each.
Super Mario 3D Land has sold more than 500,000 units to become the fastest-selling Mario title in the company’s history.
Nintendo launched the Nintendo 3DS handheld with 18 software titles Mar. 27.
The hardware includes two screens, a 3D Depth Slider, a Circle Pad, a 2GB SD Card and 3-D display technology that does not require the use of special glasses.
