LG Electronics Corp. this week said it will feature the world’s first 55-inch OLED display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV in Jan.
The display is said to hold a 5mm thin frame and feature a 100,000: 1 contrast ratio, in addition to a wider color gamut than standard flat-panel displays.
“Although OLED technology is seen as the future of TV display, the technology has been limited to smaller display sizes and by high costs, until now,” said Sang Beom Han, CEO and Executive Vice President of LG Display. “LG Display’s 55-inch OLED TV panel has overcome these barriers.”
Organic Light-Emitting-Diode technology, or OLED, is said to offer wider viewing angles, faster response time, and better power efficiency than LCD displays.
The Consumer Electronics Show will run between Jan. 10 and Jan. 11.
