A research firm this week said Sony Corp. sold more than 320,000 units of the Playstation Vita handheld in Japan at launch.

Japan-based Enterbrain this week said the PS Vita sold 321,400 units in the first two days of sale.

The hardware, which began sale in Japan Dec. 17, is the successor to the top-selling PSP handheld.

The Playstation Vita will be sold Feb. 22 in the U.S.

It features dual analog sticks, a 5-inch multi-touch OLED display, 3G & GPS, front and rear touch panels, and a compass on three axes. It will utilize flash-memory game cards.

The Playstation Vita First Edition Bundle will be sold Feb. 15.
