Hewlett Packard Co. this week sold out of refurbished HP TouchPad units after the company placed stock of the item on its eBay store.

The sale, which was intended for employees before going public, leaked to consumers which resulted in an immediate sell-out of the in-demand item.

Remaining stock of the HP TouchPad was sold at clearance prices – $99 for the 16GB SKU and $149 for the 32GB SKU.

Hewlett Packard Co. this week said it will maintain the webOS division as open source software for developers and hardware manufacturers.

The company this week said it will be active in development for the platform and make the webOS code available for open source license to hardware manufacturers, developers and partners.

In Aug., the company discontinued sale of all webOS-based products, including HP TouchPad tablet, which subsequently held strong demand after a price cut.

HP said it will be an active investor and participant in webOS development.
