Nintendo Co. said Nintendo 3DS sales are nearing three million units in Japan post price cut of the hardware, Reuters reported this week.
The company expects to sell four 3DS million units in the first year of sale.
Nintendo in Aug. price cut the Nintendo 3DS to 15,000 yen from 25,000 yen.
Media Create Co., a retail sales tracking firm in Japan, ranked the Nintendo 3DS as the top-selling game hardware in the region post price cut and the release of key Mario franchise titles.
Nintendo in Nov. said sales for the Nintendo 3DS tripled during Black Friday week.
Super Mario 3D Land, which began sale Nov. 11, has sold more than 500,000 units to become the fastest-selling Mario title in the company’s history.
Mario Kart 7, the latest entry in the kart racing franchise, began sale Dec. 4.
The Nintendo 3DS has sold 1.65 million units in the U.S.
