Activision Blizzard Inc. this month banned more than 1600 users of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360, and the PC due to cheating.

Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling tweeted this month that the company has issued 1600-plus bans.

Users can report other users who attempt to cheat, hack or glitch the title via an in-game menu. The report will be sent to the title’s security team which can issue a ban after verifying the claim.

Bowling added that fixes to patch in-game flaws that can result in an exploit will be patched.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 generated $775 million in sales in the first 5 days of sale at global retail.

The title includes new locations like New York, London and Paris, in addition to several lead characters.

The final game includes competitive and co-op online multiplayer options.
